Narrative

THE NEW CAPT CALLED FOR THE BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST WHILE WE WERE #1 (ACFT X) FOR TKOF ON RWY 22R AT EWR. THE CTLR CLRED AN ACR JET (ACFT Z) INTO TKOF POS AND HOLD ON RWY 22L AND SIDESTEPPED AN ATR (ACFT Y) TO RWY 22R. I ANSWERED FOR POS AND HOLD RWY 22L; WHICH WAS FOR THE OTHER JET. THE CTLR DID NOT PAY ATTN TO MY INCORRECT READBACK. WE STARTED TO TAXI TOWARD POS AND HOLD ON RWY 22R. ABOUT 30 SECONDS ELAPSED AND THEN THE CTLR CAUGHT THE ERROR AND TOLD US TO STOP. THE CTLR ASKED THE ATR (ACFT Y) TO FLY OVERHEAD AND LAND ON RWY 11. SINCE I DID NOT HEAR THE ATC CLRNC PROPERLY; I SHOULD HAVE CONFIRMED IT. MY READBACK WAS ALSO INCORRECT; AS I STATED RWY 22L; WHICH WAS FOR THE OTHER ACFT. EWR TWR CTLRS SEEM TO BE TOO OVERWORKED TO HAVE THE ABILITY TO PAY ATTN TO ALL READBACKS! THEY SHOULD HAVE A COMPUTER THAT SHOWS OUR READBACKS IN PRINT! THERE ARE MANY COMPUTERS THAT CONVERT VOICE TO PRINT. ALSO; SINCE I AM IN THE TRAINING DEPT; I AM SUGGESTING THAT WE TEACH OUR PLTS NOT TO RUN BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST WHILE #1 FOR TKOF. RUN THEM WHILE #2 OR ONLY AFTER ATC HAS INSTRUCTED US INTO POS AND HOLD.
