AT APPROX 15 MI FROM EGE ARPT; ON OUR 1ST FLT TO EGE; ZDV CLRED MY ACFT FOR A VISUAL APCH. ON INITIAL CONTACT WITH EGE ARPT TWR WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO RPT A 5 MI FINAL. THE PF THE ACFT POINTED OUT 5 MI ON THE DME READOUT. THE PNF RPTED A 5 MI FINAL. THE EGE TWR CLRED OUR ACFT TO LAND ON RWY 25. THE TWR CTLR AT EGE ARPT WAS BUSY WORKING 2 DIFFERENT FREQS; TWR FREQ AND GND FREQ. DURING OUR VISUAL APCH THE TWR CTLR WAS ISSUING IFR CLRNCS ON GND FREQ; WHILE WORKING AND LISTENING TO THE TWR FREQ. THIS IS WHERE THE CONFUSION TOOK PLACE AND; HE LATER INFORMED OUR ACFT WE WERE NOT CLRED TO LAND. ON OUR 2ND EVENING FLT TO EGE ARPT; ZDV; AT APPROX 15 MI; CLRED US FOR A VISUAL APCH. ON INITIAL CONTACT; EGE ARPT TWR TOLD US TO CONTINUE TOWARDS THE ARPT. AT THE SAME TIME AN ACFT WAS WAITING TO DEPART ON AN IFR FLT PLAN. WE CANCELED OUR IFR FLT PLAN SO THE EGE TWR CTLR COULD RELEASE THE ACFT ON THE GND FOR DEP. THE TWR CTLR RELEASED THE ACFT ON THE GND FOR DEP. SOON AFTER WE RPTED A 5 MI FINAL. THE TWR CTLR SAID NOT IN SIGHT; CLRED TO LAND; RWY 25. AGAIN; THE TWR CTLR APPEARED TO BE WORKING BOTH GND AND TWR FREQ. WE LANDED AND WERE INSTRUCTED TO TAXI TO THE RAMP. THERE MUST HAVE BEEN SOME CONFUSION DURING OUR APCH TO EGE ARPT AS WE WERE LATER INFORMED THAT WE LANDED WITHOUT CLRNC.
