Narrative
DEPARTED F69 TO 7TX4 (HILLCREST) VIA 52F (NORTHWEST REGIONAL). ARRIVED 52F APPROX 12 MINS AFTER DEP ON HDG OF 268 DEGS; THEN ERRONEOUSLY TURNED SE (APPROX 130 DEGS) INSTEAD OF SW (HDG 197 DEGS). RTE TOOK ME IN TO DFW'S CLASS B SURFACE TO 11000 FT AIRSPACE WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL. ALT AT TIME OF VIOLATION WAS APPROX 1500 FT MSL. UPON NOTICING I HAD BECOME DISORIENTED AND STILL UNAWARE THAT I WAS IN CLASS B AIRSPACE; I EXECUTED A 180 DEG TURN TO DEPART THE AREA AND AT THAT TIME; ALTHOUGH NOT ON A COLLISION COURSE; CAME CLOSE ENOUGH TO AN MD80 TO SET OFF THE PLANE'S TCASII WARNING SYS. AIRSPACE VIOLATION WAS CAUSED BY MISREADING THE DFW TERMINAL CHART; MISTAKEN COMPASS HDG AND THE RELATIVE CLOSENESS OF THE SMALL; PVT DEST ARPT TO DFW'S SURFACE CLASS B AIRSPACE. UPON ENTERING AFW CLASS D AIRSPACE; I WAS NOTIFIED BY THE TWR OF MY NAV MISTAKE AND CLRED TO LAND AT 7TX4. UPON ARR; I VOLUNTARILY CALLED THE AFW TWR AND THEY REFERRED ME TO THE DFW TWR. APPROX 2 HRS LATER; DUE TO THEIR LINE BEING BUSY; I CONTACTED THE TWR AND GAVE THEM MY COMPLETE CONTACT INFO. AS OF SEP/XA/98; NO ONE HAS CONTACTED ME. THIS INCIDENT RESULTED IN NO DAMAGE TO PROPERTY OR PERSONS AND WAS UNINTENTIONAL. CORRECTIVE ACTION TO PREVENT FUTURE VIOLATIONS; IS TO PAY CLOSER ATTN TO NAV CHARTS.
