PLT IN A CARGO C208 AT RNO RECEIVES TAXI CLRNC AND DURING TAXI TO THE RWY IS NEARLY RUN DOWN BY 2 OTHER ACFT ALSO TAXIING OUT.

Narrative

I WAS PIC OF ACFT X IFR FROM RNO-OAK. AFTER RECEIVING MY DEP CLRNC; I WAS CLRED TO TAXI FROM THE COMPANY RAMP TO RWY 34; VIA TXWY B. I ENTERED TXWY B FROM TXWY D AND TURNED SBOUND FOR RWY 34. PRIOR TO REACHING TXWY G; I HEARD ACFT Y (METRO III) REQUEST TAXI CLRNC. I SAW THE METRO AND HE WAS QUICKLY APCHING TXWY G FROM TXWY A AND ROLLED ONTO TXWY B PRIOR TO BEING ISSUED A CLRNC. I SAW THIS AND SLOWED MY ACFT TO PROVIDE A COMFORTABLE DISTANCE (100 FT?). THE SCARY PART WAS THAT ACFT Z; MD80; WAS INSTRUCTED TO FOLLOW ACFT Y; WHICH HE DID RATHER QUICKLY. AT THIS POINT; I WAS S ON TXWY B AND XING TXWY G. THE MD80 OBVIOUSLY DID NOT SEE ME; AS HIS NOSE WAS ENTERING THE INTXN. I COULD SEE BOTH PLTS; HEADS APPARENTLY BUSY IN THEIR COCKPIT AND NOBODY LOOKING OUTSIDE. (THEIR COCKPIT LIGHTS WERE VERY BRIGHT; MAKING OUTSIDE OBSERVATION DIFFICULT.) IF I STOPPED AT THIS POINT; I WAS SURE THAT THE MD80'S L WING WOULD ENTER MY COCKPIT. I ELECTED TO VEER TO THE L (E) SIDE OF THE INTXN AND ACCELERATE THROUGH. THE MD80 STOPPED ABRUPTLY UPON SEEING ME. THE ONLY GND CONVERSATION WAS THAT OF RNO GND ASKING ME TO VERIFY THAT I WAS ON TXWY B. I REPLIED 'YES; ON B' NOW FOLLOWING ACFT Y. I AM SURE THAT WE WERE ALL AWARE OF WHAT JUST HAPPENED BECAUSE THE FREQ GOT VERY QUIET AND NOT ANOTHER WORD WAS SAID UNTIL TWR CLRNCS WERE ISSUED. SOME OF US HAVE DEVELOPED A VERY BAD HABIT OF 'ROLLING' WHILE AWAITING TAXI CLRNC AND ATC APPEARS TO ACCEPT THIS OR DOES NOT NOTICE. IN A 2-CREW ACFT; SOMEBODY NEEDS TO BE LOOKING OUTSIDE; AND EVEN 'LISTEN AHEAD' ON THE RADIO FOR SITUATIONAL AWARENESS. ALSO; COCKPIT LIGHTS SHOULD BE DIMMED WHILE IN MOTION FOR BETTER OUTSIDE VISION.
