DURING DUAL TRAINING FLT IN A BEECH A36; THE TRAINEE INADVERTENTLY LINED UP WITH THE RWY EDGE LIGHTING FOR TKOF RESULTING IN HITTING 2 LIGHTS BEFORE ABORTING TKOF. THE 2 RWY LIGHTS AND THE ACFT PROP WERE DAMAGED.

Narrative

ON SEP/XA/98 AT APPROX XX30; MY STUDENT AND I WERE PREPARING TO TAKE OFF FROM LAS ARPT ON OUR WAY BACK TO FMN. WE HAD JUST PERFORMED OUR RUNUP AND WERE CLRED FOR TKOF FROM RWY 19R. MY STUDENT WAS AT THE FLT CTLS AND TAXIED US ONTO THE RWY. HE TAXIED US ONTO THE RWY VIA GREEN TXWY CTRLINE LIGHTING THAT WAS ON THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD OF THE RWY. SINCE THERE WAS TXWY CTRLINE LIGHTING TO LEAD US ONTO THE RWY; I ASSUMED THERE WOULD BE RWY CTRLINE LIGHTING. IN ADDITION; RWY 19L IS NOT FAR FROM THE RWY WE WERE ON AND PARALLEL TO OUR RWY. MY STUDENT LINED US UP WITH WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS THE CTRLINE FOR RWY 19R BECAUSE OF THE TXWY CTRLINE LIGHTING AND THE EDGE LIGHTS FROM RWY 19L. HE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE THE ACFT AND AT SOME POINT I REALIZED THAT WE WERE NOT ALIGNED WITH THE CTRLINE BUT INSTEAD THE EDGE LIGHTS. I INSTRUCTED MY STUDENT TO ABORT THE TKOF; BUT WE HIT 2 LIGHTS. IN HITTING THE LIGHTS WE BENT ONE OF THE PROP BLADES. THE PRESENCE OF TXWY CTRLINE LIGHTING BUT NO RWY CTRLINE LIGHTING AND THE PROX OF THE PARALLEL RWY MADE THE ILLUSION THAT WE WERE; IN FACT; ON THE CTRLINE.
