SCHEDULED XCOUNTRY TRAINING FLT FROM PROPWASH (16XS) JUSTIN; TX; TO MAJORS FIELD; GREENVILLE (GVT); TX. PLANNED ENRTE TIME OF 0.7 HRS. ENTERED APCH TO GVT FROM THE W DSNDING FROM 2500 FT MSL TO THE GVT PATTERN ALT OF 1500 FT MSL. MADE RADIO CALL TO MAJORS TFC ON 118.65 WITH LOCATION AND INTENTIONS OF XING MID-FIELD; L DOWNWIND AND L BASE FOR RWY 17; FULL STOP; MAJORS. NOTE: THE MAJORS CTL TWR IS NOT NORMALLY OPENED ON THE WKEND. CROSSED MID- FIELD AT 1500 FT MSL (JUST N OF THE MAJORS CTL TWR) TO VIEW WINDSOCK LOCATED ON E SIDE OF RWY 17/35. UPON XING MID-FIELD; MADE RADIO CALL TO MAJORS TFC ON 118.65 WITH LOCATION AND INTENTIONS OF L DOWNWIND; L BASE FOR RWY 17; FULL STOP; MAJORS. AFTER WINGS LEVEL ON DOWNWIND; PULLED CARB HEAT ON AND PULLED PWR BACK TO 1500 RPM; 80 MPH INDICATED. AT THAT TIME; THERE WAS A MILD VIBRATION FELT IN THE ENG. INSTEAD OF FLYING THE NORMAL DOWNWIND LEG; TURNED TO BASE LEG EARLY (TO THE W). AT THAT TIME AFTER WINGS LEVEL; A MORE PRONOUNCED VIBRATION WAS FELT AND THEN A LOUD 'THUD' WAS HEARD. AT THAT TIME; THE PROP ASSEMBLY DEPARTED THE ACFT AND HIT THE R FRONT COWL AREA OF THE ACFT. ALT WAS APPROX 1000-1200 FT MSL. CONTINUED THE BASE LEG AND ENTERED FINAL APCH TO RWY 17; MAJORS FIELD (GREENVILLE). ACCOMPLISHED SUCCESSFUL DEAD-STICK LNDG ON RWY 17. NOTE: NO OTHER ACFT WERE OPERATING ON OR AROUND MAJORS FIELD (GREENVILLE) DURING THIS TIME FRAME.
