DEP CLBING TFC A GIV NARROWLY MISSES A DSNDING C210 WHILE DEP LGB. THE C210 WAS MOST LIKELY ON THE VFR TRANSITION RTE THROUGH THE LAX BASIN.

Narrative

WE HAD JUST TAKEN OFF FROM LONG BEACH FOR RUIDOSO. AT 5000 FT TURNING S; WE WERE CLRED TO CLB TO 6000 FT. IN THE CLB; WE GOT A SUDDEN TCASII ADVISORY AND RAPIDLY AN RA. THE PLT INITIATED A HARD L TURN. I LOOKED OUT THE WINDOW AND A C210 WAS IN A DSCNT AIMED RIGHT AT US. IT WAS MIXED CLOUDS. IT WAS VIRTUALLY A HEAD-ON COLLISION SAVE FOR THE TURN BY BOTH ACFT. THE CTLRS HAD CLRED THIS PLANE TO DSND AND ALSO CLRED US TO CLB. THE TCASII SAVED OUR LIVES CLRLY. ALSO CLRLY; THE CTLR NEARLY COST IT. MY COMPANY; FOR FEAR OF PUBLICITY; WILL NOT FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE FAA. THIS HAS RECEIVED NO ATTN LOCALLY AND WILL CERTAINLY HAPPEN AGAIN. IT IS REGRETTABLE THAT THIS IS THE ONLY AVENUE I HAVE FOR RPTING THIS AND STILL BE ABLE TO KEEP MY JOB. THESE THINGS HAPPEN PRETTY FREQUENTLY OVER SOCAL WHICH REFLECT THE AMOUNT OF TFC AND ALSO THE CALIBER OF THE ATC. WE DID CALL THE OFFICE FOR THE CTLING AUTH DURING THE FLT AND SPOKE WITH A SUPVR AND SHE DID CONTACT OUR CHIEF PLT; BUT THAT IS THE EXTENT OF THE ACTION THAT I KNOW TO HAVE BEEN CONDUCTED. THOSE DISTANCES ARE ACCURATE I BELIEVE. IT WAS VERY; VERY CLOSE. I BELIEVE THE SIT WARRANTS MORE THAN THIS RPT; BUT I FEEL THAT NOTHING WILL BE DONE REGARDLESS.
