Synopsis

AN SMA PLT LANDS ON A CLOSED RWY AT IGM; AZ. THE LNDG WAS ALSO ON THE WRONG RWY.

Narrative

I DEPARTED DRO AT XX10Z VFR TO PSP TO ATTEND A CONVENTION. AT THE WX BRIEFING PRIOR TO DEP; I CHKED NOTAMS AT FLG AND 40G WHERE I PLANNED TO REFUEL. LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS WERE IN THE AREA ABOUT THE TIME I PLANNED TO LAND AND I DECIDED TO PROCEED ON COURSE. KINGMAN WAS AHEAD; NOT FAR OFF COURSE AND WITH CLR WX. I HAD NEVER FLOWN IN THE KINGMAN AREA OR LANDED AT KINGMAN BEFORE. I APCHED KINGMAN FROM THE SE AND SPOKE WITH IGM UNICOM FOR ARPT ADVISORIES AFTER LISTENING TO ASOS THAT INDICATED WINDS 350 DEGS AT 7 KTS. I INDICATED THAT I PLANNED TO LAND ON RWY 35. UNICOM CLRED ME TO LAND ON RWY 35. THAT WAS THE EXTENT OF THEIR COM. AS I APCHED FOR A STRAIGHT- IN; I LINED UP ON RWY 3 INSTEAD OF RWY 35. I LANDED ON THE NUMBERS AND CAME TO A STOP AFTER A SHORT ROLL. AT THAT TIME I NOTICED THERE WAS SOME CONSTRUCTION AHEAD ON THE L SIDE OF THE RWY AND A PERSON WAS PRESENT BEYOND THE CONSTRUCTION AND I REALIZED THE RWY MUST BE CLOSED. I SLOWLY ADVANCED THE THROTTLE AND STARTED ROLLING AGAIN AFTER THE PERSON EXITED THE RWY; AND EXITED THE TXWY TO GET FUEL. FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO MY DISTR: THE IGM ARPT IS A STORAGE/REPAIR ARPT FOR COMMERCIAL AIRPLANES AND I WAS DISTR TO SOME DEG LOOKING AT THEM. FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTED: 1) UNICOM DID NOT INDICATE THAT THERE WAS A RWY CLOSURE OR CONSTRUCTION AT THE ARPT. 2) THERE WAS NOT AN 'X' ON THE RWY. THE 'X' WAS OFF TO THE L ON THE TXWY.
