Narrative
WHILE ON AN IFR FLT PLAN IN ACTUAL IMC FROM HUB; TX; TO ADS; TX; I WAS RADAR VECTORED BY DALLAS REGIONAL APCH. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO USE THE ADS NDB 15 APCH INTO ADDISON. THE WX HAD DETERIORATED TO 600 FT 2 MI WITH RAIN AND FOG. THE APCH CTLR VECTORED ME ON A 90 DEG INTERCEPT TO THE NDB WITH AN APPROX HDG OF 255 DEGS. HE INSTRUCTED ME TO RPT WHEN ESTABLISHED AND CONTACT TWR. THE NDB 15 INBOUND COURSE IS 154 DEGS AND UPON REACHING THE NDB; I MADE A SHARP TURN TO THE L TO INTERCEPT THE INBOUND COURSE. WE RPTED INBOUND AND CALLED ADS TWR. I RECEIVED MISSED APCH INSTRUCTIONS TO CLB RWY HDG AND CLB TO 3000 FT MSL. I BEGAN A DSCNT TO 1100 FT MSL AS PUBLISHED. AT APPROX 1500 FT MSL THE ADF NEEDLE BEGAN TO SWING AND PROVIDED ERRONEOUS INFO. I CALLED MISSED APCH TO MY SAFETY PLT. AT THIS TIME ADS TWR SCREAMED 'ACFT X; WHAT ARE YOU DOING?' WE RPTED MISSED APCH AND SWITCHED TO DALLAS APCH. WE CHKED IN AND RPTED CLBING TO 3000 FT MSL AND WERE TOLD TO DSND IMMEDIATELY TO 2000 FT MSL. WE COMPLIED AND WE THEN ASKED FOR SEQUENCING FOR THE ILS INTO DFW. WE RECEIVED CLRNC AND LANDED AT DFW. I WAS TOLD TO CONTACT DALLAS TRACON VIA TELEPHONE. I CALLED AND SPOKE WITH THE TRACON SUPVR AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAD OCCURRED. HE SAID NO FURTHER ACTION WAS REQUIRED. THE ACFT WAS FLOWN BACK BY A CFI WHO SQUAWKED THE ACFT ADF FOR BEING UNRELIABLE. HE RPTED IT RPTING 20 DEGS OFF COURSE. I REVIEWED MY LOGBOOK AND REALIZED THAT I WAS NOT CURRENT TO EXERCISE THE PRIVILEGES OF PIC AND CARRY A PAX. THE OTHER PLT WAS ON BOARD AS A LICENSED PVT MULTI IFR SAFETY PLT.
