Synopsis

MD80. CREW; UNDER DIRECTION FROM A GND MARSHALLER AND 2 WING WALKERS HIT A CATERING TRUCK.

Narrative

WINGTIP CATERING TRUCK CONTACT. ACFT WAS ON THE LEAD-IN LINE FOR GATE AB AT DFW WITH A GUIDEMAN AND A WING WALKER ON EACH SIDE OF THE ACFT. AT APPROX 20 FT FROM THE FINAL GATE POS I FELT A SUDDEN AND UNUSUAL JOLT ON THE ACFT. IMMEDIATELY THEREAFTER THE GUIDEMAN GAVE A STOP SIGNAL. HE APPEARED TO CHK THE R SIDE OF THE ACFT AND THEN PROCEEDED TO MOTION ME FORWARD TO THE FINAL GATE POS. NEITHER MYSELF NOR THE FO OBSERVED A STOP SIGNAL OR ANYTHING UNUSUAL PRIOR TO THE IMPACT. THE FO DID OBSERVE A WING WALKER ON THE R SIDE OF THE ACFT IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE IMPACT. I HAD NOTICED THE CATERING TRUCK ON THE R SIDE OF THE GATE AREA PRIOR TO TURNING IN ON THE LEAD-IN LINE. THE TRUCK WAS MOVING FORWARD TOWARDS THE TAIL OF AN ACFT ON THE NEXT GATE AC AND APPEARED TO BE OUT OF THE WAY. AS I APCHED THE GATE ON THE LEAD-IN LINE I CONCENTRATED ON FOLLOWING THE GUIDEMAN'S SIGNALS AND COULD NOT SEE THE TRUCK. THE IMPACT FELT LIKE A MILD BUMP FROM INSIDE THE ACFT AND NO INJURIES WERE RPTED BY PAX OR FLT ATTENDANTS. THE SEAT BELT SIGN WAS ON.
