AN MD80 WAS DISPATCHED WITH THE AFT GALLEY SLIDE INSTALLED IMPROPERLY AND UNUSABLE DUE TO THE INFLATION VALVE LOCKPIN WAS NOT REMOVED.

AN MD80 WAS DISPATCHED WITH THE AFT GALLEY SLIDE INSTALLED IMPROPERLY AND UNUSABLE DUE TO THE INFLATION VALVE LOCKPIN WAS NOT REMOVED.
Narrative
ON JUL/XA/98 ACFT XYZ ARRIVED AT ZZZ GATE YZ WITH THE AFT GALLEY DOOR EVAC SLIDE COVER LOOSE AND EVAC SLIDE LAYING ON THE AFT GALLEY FLOOR WITH THE DEPLOYMENT WIRE BROKEN. I REMOVED EVAC SLIDE AND INSTALLED NEW EVAC SLIDE PART NUMBER AXAX PER MAINT MANUAL 25-62-00-2-2. ON NOV/XB/98 IT WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTN THAT I INADVERTENTLY LEFT THE INFLATION VALVE LOCK PIN INSTALLED ON THE SVCABLE PART. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE LOCK PIN WAS ALLEGEDLY DISCOVERED INSTALLED AT A 'B' CHK. THE RPTR SAID THE SLIDE WAS INSTALLED PER THE MAINT MANUAL AND THE MANUAL CLRLY STATES TO REMOVE THE VALVE LOCK PIN AND IS CERTAIN IT WAS REMOVED. THE RPTR STATED THAT THE MECH WHO ASSISTED IN THE INSTALLATION WAS POSITIVE THE PIN WAS REMOVED. THE RPTR SAID IT APPEARED THAT IT WAS THE RPTR'S WORD AGAINST THE PERSON WHO RPTED DISCOVERY OF THE PIN. THE RPTR AND THE MECH WHO ASSISTED IN THE INSTALLATION MADE 2 ATTEMPTS TO INSTALL A SLIDE WITH THE PIN IN PLACE IN THE AFT GALLEY DOOR AND FOUND THE SLIDE WILL NOT ALLOW THE SLIDE COVER TO CLOSE AND FIT PROPERLY. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR ACN 420218 REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE SLIDE WAS INSTALLED PER THE MAINT MANUAL PROC AND THE COVER FIT PERFECTLY. THE RPTR SAID 2 SLIDES WERE INSTALLED BY THE RPTR FOR INFO PURPOSES AND IT WAS DISCOVERED WITH THE PIN INSTALLED THE SLIDE COVER WILL NOT FIT PROPERLY. THE RPTR STATED ANOTHER MECH ATTEMPTED THE SAME EXPERIMENT WITH THE SAME RESULT; THE SLIDE COVER WOULD NOT FIT. THE RPTR SAID THE PIN ALSO HAS A 2 FT RED STREAMER ATTACHED TO THE PIN THAT WOULD POSSIBLY HANG OUT IN THE LOWER PART OF THE DOOR.
