Narrative
UPON LNDG AT MDW ON RWY 22R; I WAS INSTRUCTED TO TURN L AT RWY 31C; HOLD SHORT RWY 22L. AS I TAXIED TO RWY 22L; I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO STOP AT A POINT I BELIEVED WOULD BE THE PROPER DISTANCE FROM THE ACTIVE RWY. AS I SLOWED; THE TWR CTLR SAID 'STOP;' AT WHICH POINT I HIT THE BRAKES AND STOPPED. AT THIS POINT I SAW AN ACR Y FLT TO MY L; WHO HAD JUST BEGUN HIS TKOF ROLL; SLOWED TO A STOP AND EXITED THE RWY (RWY 22L). THERE WAS NO RWY INCURSION; BUT I BELIEVE THE TWR CTLR EXPECTED ME TO HOLD SHORT AT A POINT BEHIND ME. I WAS GOING TO HOLD SHORT AT AN IMAGINARY LINE THAT EXISTS AT TXWY/RWY INTXNS. THIS MISUNDERSTANDING OF WHERE I WAS GOING TO HOLD SHORT AND WHERE TWR THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO HOLD SHORT CAUSED HER TO TAKE NOTICE AND TELL ME TO STOP. THE ACR Y FLT ALSO ABORTED THEIR TKOF ROLL; WHICH HAD JUST BEGUN; AND RETURN TO START AGAIN. I BELIEVE TO PREVENT THIS IN THE FUTURE; THAT THERE SHOULD BE SOME IDENTIFYING MARKING OR SIGN TO SHOW WHERE THE HOLD SHORT POINT IS ON INTERSECTING RWYS. THE OCCURRENCE ON A LARGE ARPT; AT NIGHT; LEAVES FEW CLUES TO WHERE OPS LIKE THESE SHOULD TAKE PLACE. PERHAPS THE CTLR COULD MENTION WHERE TO HOLD SHORT (IE; 'HOLD SHORT MIDWAY BTWN RWY 22R AND RWY 22L'); TO AVOID MISUNDERSTANDINGS -- ESPECIALLY THOSE PLTS WHO MAY BE UNFAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT.
