Narrative
AT FL210 ZBW ASKED US IF WE HAD THE WX FOR PQI. WE REPLIED NEGATIVE AND HE GAVE US THE CURRENT WX; WHICH WAS VFR 7000 FT FEW; 9000 FT OVCST; 10 MI VISIBILITY; 180 DEG 4 KT WIND. CTR ASKED US OUR INTENTIONS. WE SAID THAT WE WOULD DO THE VISUAL TO RWY 1. HE DSNDED US DOWN TO 11000 FT AND WHILE IN THE DSCNT HE CLRED US DOWN TO 5000 FT AND A HDG OF 060 DEGS. AT 18 MI OUT; THE LOC CAME ALIVE. WE TRIED NUMEROUS TIMES TO CONTACT ZBW WITHOUT SUCCESS. WE FLEW THROUGH THE COURSE ON ASSIGNED HDG 060 DEGS. AT 5000 FT; WE MADE A DECISION THAT WE HAD LOST COM WITH ZBW AND SWITCHED OVER TO PQI CTAF 122.8 AND ANNOUNCED OUR POS AND INTENTIONS. AT THAT TIME WE ESTABLISHED COM WITH AN ACFT BACK TAXIING TO RWY 1 AND WOULD BE DEPARTING VFR. WE TURNED BACK TO REINTERCEPT THE LOC AND FLEW FOR EXCAL; WHICH IS THE IAF FAF FOR RWY 1. AT 12.5 DME WE ESTABLISHED VISUAL ON THE ARPT; RWY AND DEPARTING ACFT. WE SPOKE TO THE ACFT AND ANNOUNCED OUR POS ON FINAL FOR RWY 1. AT THIS TIME WE LEFT 5000 FT AND MADE A DSCNT TO RECAPTURE THE GS; MAKING A VISUAL APCH; BACKED UP BY THE ILS AND LANDED. UPON CLRING RWY 1; WE RE-ESTABLISHED COM ON BOSTON CLRNC FREQ 121.6. WE EXPLAINED OUR SIT AND HE EXPRESSED CONCERN ON DEPARTING VFR ACFT AND INABILITY TO COMMUNICATE WITH US.
