LOCKHEED TRISTAR AT SFO EXECUTED GAR AS DIRECTED AND TWR CTLR HDG INSTRUCTIONS MISSED DURING SIMULTANEOUS COMS TFC.

Narrative

WE WERE CLRED FOR THE QUIET BRIDGE VISUAL APCH RWY 28R INTO SFO. DUE TO ANOTHER ACFT ON THE RWY; WE WERE TOLD TO EXECUTE A GAR BY TWR CTLR. WE WERE AT ABOUT 300 FT AGL. WE WERE TOLD TO CLB TO 3000 FT ON A 280 DEG HDG. AS THE PF; I WAS GIVING THE GAR CALLOUTS AT SAME TIME TWR WAS GIVING THESE FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS; AND WE MISSED THE HDG ASSIGNMENT. INSTEAD; WE TURNED TO HDG SUGGESTED ON THE VISUAL APCH PLATE 310 DEGS. WHILE IN THE TURN THE CTLR CORRECTED US. WE WENT TO THE 280 DEG HDG. THERE WERE NO FURTHER PROBS. TO HELP PREVENT THIS; WE; AS PLTS; NEED TO MAKE SURE WE UNDERSTAND THE INSTRUCTIONS. IF NOT SURE; WE NEED TO RECONFIRM. ALSO; THOUGH I FEEL THE CTLR AFTER TELLING US TO GO AROUND SHOULD WAIT A FEW SECONDS WHILE I AM GIVING MY GAR INSTRUCTIONS (FLAPS; GEAR UP; ETC); BEFORE GIVING FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS SO WE ARE NOT BOTH TALKING AT THE SAME TIME. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 422940: THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT SFO TWR HAS ISSUED INSTRUCTIONS TO MY ACFT IN A RUSHED AND UNTIMELY MANNER. THE LAST TIME WAS TAXI INSTRUCTIONS JUST AFTER TOUCHDOWN. THOSE PEOPLE SHOULD RIDE WITH US AND HAVE POINTED OUT TO THEM THE ACTIVITY LEVEL IN THE COCKPIT DURING TOUCHDOWN; ROLLOUT; AND GAR PROCS. ONE THING AT A TIME; PLEASE!
