PLT OF A MOONEY MO21 INADVERTENTLY ENTERED CLASS B AIRSPACE ENRTE TO HOME BASE. HE EXITED THE AIRSPACE IMMEDIATELY AFTER RECOGNIZING HIS ERROR.

Narrative

I WAS RETURNING FROM A LCL FLT OVER THE CORONA; CA; AREA; AND ON THE WAY BACK TO TORRANCE; CA; I MAY HAVE INADVERTENTLY ENTERED CLASS B AIRSPACE IN THE LOS ALAMITOS AREA. I WAS RETURNING FROM CORONA ON A HDG OF 238 DEGS (U394) OFF THE SEAL BEACH VOR. I WAS AT 7000 FT; 5 MI W OF CORONA; ABOVE A BROKEN CLOUD DECK. I CONTACTED SOCAL APCH; TOLD THEM MY POS; AND THEY ASKED ME TO IDENT ON VFR SQUAWK 1200 AFTER WHICH THEY TOLD ME TO CONTACT ANOTHER FREQ AS I WAS NOT IN THEIR AREA. I CONTACTED THE NEXT CTLR BUT HE WAS BUSY AND WAS PUTTING PEOPLE ON STANDBY; ME INCLUDED. AFTER A LITTLE WHILE I TRIED TO MAKE CONTACT AGAIN BUT HE WAS STILL BUSY. BY THIS TIME I WAS SEVERAL MILES ALONG TOWARDS SEAL BEACH VOR AND I HAD CLIMBED UP TO 8300 FT TO STAY OUT OF CLOUDS. IT WAS THEN THAT I REALIZED I WAS APCHING CLASS B AIRSPACE WHICH WAS BETWEEN 7000 AND 10000 FT. I WAS STILL VFR ON TOP OF A BROKEN CLOUD DECK. I IMMEDIATELY MADE A 90 DEG R TURN AND RAPIDLY DESCENDED TO 3000 FT. ON DESCENT I BELIEVE I ENTERED CLASS B AIRSPACE JUST S OF FULLERTON. MY LAPSE IN JUDGEMENT AT WAITING FOR CTLR RESPONSE WAS MY FAULT. I AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH THIS PARTICULAR AREA AND DO REALIZE HOW SENSITIVE THIS AREA IS. TO MY KNOWLEDGE THERE WAS NO CONFLICT WITH OTHER ACFT.
