PLTS OF A MBB-BK117 HELI WERE PRACTICING ABORTED AND EMER LNDGS OFF THE SIDE OF RWYS ON AN UNCTLED ARPT WHEN A SMALL FIXED WING ACFT TOOK OFF BESIDE THEM ON THE MAIN RWY AND LATER LANDED WITHOUT ANNOUNCING INTENTIONS TO DO SO OVER UNICOM.

Narrative

WE WERE CONDUCTING TRANSITION TRAINING AT CLARK COUNTY ARPT IN JEFFERSONVILLE; IN (JVY). WE WERE IN THE SOD AREA N OF RWY 32 AND W OF RWY 36. THE ARPT IS CLASS G WITH AN UNICOM. DURING OUR MANEUVER; WE CALLED ON UNICOM AND STATED OUR INTENTIONS OF DOING A QUICK STOP OVER THE SOD AREA REMAINING E OF RWY 36. AS WE FINISHED THE MANEUVER A FIXED WING DEPARTED RWY 36 IN FRONT OF US. THERE WAS NEVER ANY DANGER OF A COLLISION BUT THE OTHER PLT AND I NEVER HEARD A CALL FROM THE FIXED WING ON TKOF. HE DID CALL LEAVING THE PATTERN; HOWEVER. A SHORT TIME LATER IN THE SAME SOD AREA WE WERE DOING ABORTED TKOFS WITH RUNNING LNDGS TO THE SOD. WE NEVER GOT OVER 10 FT HIGH ON THIS MANEUVER AND REMAINED N OF RWY 32 AND E OF RWY 36. WE HEARD A CALL FROM A PLANE SAYING SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT THAT HE WAS 10 MI AWAY FOR RWY 36. WE ANNOUNCED OUR INTENTIONS ON THE UNICOM STATING THAT WE WOULD REMAIN OVER THE SOD N OF RWY 32 AND E OF RWY 36. WE HEARD NO OTHER CALLS FROM THE INBOUND PLANE. AS WE FINISHED THE LAST MANEUVER AND WERE SLIDING ALONG THE SOD; I CAUGHT SIGHT OF THE PLANE ON ROLLOUT PAST US ON RWY 32. NEITHER OF THESE INCIDENTS CONSTITUTE AN EMER; BUT DO ILLUSTRATE THE NEED TO BE ESPECIALLY VIGILANT AROUND AN UNCTLED ARPT.
