ATX PLT OF A BEECH BARON BE58 FORGOT TO LOWER THE LNDG GEAR AFTER RETRACTING THE GEAR FOR MISSED APCH AND THEN CIRCLING TO LAND.

Narrative

I EXECUTED THE APCH TO RWY 24 AT WISE. THE WINDS WERE 340 DEGS AT 8 KTS GUSTING TO 10 KTS. WHEN I REACHED THE MINIMUM DSCNT ALT AND MISSED APCH POINT; I DIDN'T SEE THE RWY SO I STARTED A MISSED APCH. I STARTED TO ADVANCE THROTTLES AND RETRACTED THE GEAR WHICH I HAD EXTENDED UPON BEGINNING DSCNT. IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS; I PICKED UP THE RWY AND ATTEMPTED TO CIRCLE AND LAND ON RWY 24 I TURNED R DOWNWIND AND ANNOUNCED MY INTENTIONS ON UNICOM. I TURNED BASE AND FINAL TO RWY 24 AND LNDG HAVING FORGOTTEN THAT I HAD RETRACTED THE LNDG GEAR. I WAS SO PREOCCUPIED WITH STAYING OUT OF CLOUDS AND MAINTAINING VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE RWY I FORGOT TO RE-EXTEND THE LNDG GEAR. I DID NOT HEAR THE THROTTLE HORN. IT APPARENTLY FAILED. I BELIEVE THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED HAD I NOT ABANDONED THE MISSED AND ATTEMPTED TO CIRCLE AND LAND. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WERE DISTR; ATTEMPTING TO MANEUVER THE ACFT WHILE TRYING TO MAINTAIN VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE LNDG ENVIRONMENT; AND THE FAILED GEAR HORN. I BELIEVE THE BEST WAY OF PREVENTING THIS INCIDENT FROM RECURRING IS ONCE THE MISSED APCH IS INITIATED; DO NOT ABANDON IT AND ATTEMPT A CIRCLING APCH TO LNDG.
