A SAAB 340B ON LNDG AT APPROX 10 FT THE ELEVATOR CTL MOMENTARILY JAMMED CAUSED BY THE CAPT'S CTL COLUMN ROD ENDS CONTAMINATED WITH A SEALANT.
Narrative
ON SHORT FINAL TO EASTERWOOD FIELD IN COLLEGE STATION; TX; AT ABOUT 10 FT OFF THE GND; THE PITCH PORTION OF THE CTLS JAMMED MOMENTARILY. THE FO WAS FLYING AND WAS ABLE TO OVERPWR THE JAM. THE LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL. AFTER TAXIING TO THE GATE; POSTFLT INSPECTION REVEALED ONLY A SLIGHT BINDING AND ASSOCIATED NOISE COMING FROM THE BASE OF THE CAPT'S CTL COLUMN. MAINT WAS NOTIFIED AND A REPAIR CREW WAS DISPATCHED. THE NEXT MORNING; AFTER RETURNING TO THE ARPT; WE DISCUSSED THE EVENT WITH THE MECHS WHO WORKED ON THE ACFT. THEIR FINDINGS INDICATED SOME KIND OF SEALANT HAD COME IN CONTACT WITH THE PUSH ROD AND TUBE; WHICH CTLS THE STICK PUSHER. A THOROUGH CLEANING WAS PERFORMED AND APPROVED MAINT WAS PERFORMED AS PER THE ACR AND SAAB MAINT MANUALS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE MATERIAL THAT COATED THE PUSH ROD END WAS A STICKY SEMI-HARD SEALANT. THE RPTR SAID THE SOURCE OF THE SEALANT AND WHERE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE USED WAS UNKNOWN. THE RPTR STATED THE ACFT WAS A SAAB 340B.
