Narrative
TAXIED FROM GATE BY MAKING A R TURN. WE WERE GIVEN TAXI INSTRUCTIONS TO RWY 33. USING A COMMERCIAL CHART 10-9; JUL/98; WE TAXIED OUT TO TXWY A. ABOUT 1/2 WAY TO TXWY A; WE WENT OFF INTO A GRASS AREA. ACFT BECAME STUCK IN 2 INCHES OF SOFT GRASS. WE DEPLANED THE PAX ONTO A BUS; AND THE ACFT WAS PUSHED BACK ONTO THE PAVEMENT. FACTORS THAT LED TO THIS: THERE ARE NO TAXI LINES ANYWHERE ON THE S SIDE OF RAMP AREA. NO TAXI OR OBSTRUCTION LIGHTS MARKING THE EDGE OF THE PAVEMENT. CHART 10-9 DOES NOT SHOW CORRECT RAMP AREA WHEREAS COMMERCIAL CHART 10-9B; LOW VISIBILITY TAXI RTES; DOES. SHADOWING FROM TERMINAL SPOTLIGHT MADE THE BROWN GRASS LOOK LIKE CONCRETE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR ADVISED THAT NOT TOO LONG AFTER HIS EXCURSION; AN MD80 HAD AN EXCURSION IN THE SAME AREA. THE ALLEGED INCORRECT ARPT DIAGRAM WAS REVISED AND CORRECTED WITH A NEW REVISION. THE PLT WAS ADVISED THAT COMPANY AND ARPT OFFICIALS MET WITH THE FAA. ARPT REPRESENTATIVES APPARENTLY CORRECTED RAMP CONCERNS. CORRECTIONS WERE COORDINATED WITH THE COMMERCIAL CHART COMPANY AND THE NEW REVISION NOW DEPICTS THE CORRECT RAMP DIMENSIONS. THE LOW VIS TAXI RTES CHART NOW HAS A LEGEND ICON DEPICTING THE LOCATION WHERE OVER STEERING IS REQUIRED TO REMAIN ON THE RAMP SURFACE AT TXWY K.
