Narrative
WE DEPARTED FROM LYH IFR TO DAA; FILED TO CSN; DIRECT TO DAA AND WERE CLRED AS FILED TO DAA. SHORTLY AFTER DEP; CTR WANTED US TO FLY DIRECT LURAY. WE REQUESTED DIRECT TO GVE THEN DIRECT TO LURAY AND CTR APPROVED. JUST PRIOR TO LURAY; CTR REQUESTED WE FLY THE MANNE 4 ARR FOR DAA. SINCE WE HAD BEEN CLRED AS FILED; THIS CAME AS A SURPRISE AND TO ADD TO MY CONFUSION; CTR DID NOT SPECIFY THE TRANSITION FOR THE MANNE ARR. HINDSIGHT CLRLY SUGGESTS I SHOULD HAVE STUDIED THE SPECIFIED MANNE 4 ARR FOR DAA EVEN THOUGH I HAD BEEN CLRED AS FILED. AT LURAY MY STUDENT STARTED A R TURN TO 092 DEGS TO CSN WHERE HE EXPECTED RADAR VECTORS TO DAA. CTR CALLED IMMEDIATELY AND REQUESTED WE CONTINUE ON THE MANNE 4 ARR; STILL OMITTING SPECIFYING THE MONTEBELLO TRANSITION. STILL BEING CONFUSED; WE REQUESTED RADAR VECTORS AND RECEIVED A RADAR VECTOR OF 070 DEGS TO WHICH WE IMMEDIATELY COMPLIED. SHORTLY THEREAFTER; CTR SAID THEY WERE TOO BUSY FOR RADAR VECTORS AND TO INTERCEPT THE 300 DEG RADIAL OFF ARMEL VORTAC. AT THAT POINT I FINALLY UNDERSTOOD WHAT CTR WANTED ME TO FLY -- THE MONTEBELLO TRANSITION (MOL.MANNE 4) WHICH WE DID PRECISELY.
