EMB120 FLC FERRIES ACFT WITHOUT FERRY PERMIT.

Narrative

WHILE ENRTE FROM CVG TO CRW IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT OUR #1 NAV EQUIP HAD BECOME INOP. I ASKED THE FO TO HOLD ALL CHKLISTS UNTIL WE WERE OUT OF THE TERMINAL AREA DUE TO TFC CONGESTION. FROM THIS PAINT; WE REQUESTED A HDG FROM ATC TO OUR FIRST FIX 80 MI AWAY; AND INFORMED THEM OF THE PROB. AFTER LEAVING THE TERMINAL AREA; WE REFERRED TO THE FLT STANDARDS AND QRH CHKLIST. AFTER COMPLETING CHKLISTS; WE NOTIFIED COMPANY MAINT VIA RADIO. AFTER LNDG IN CRW (VISUAL APCH) WE CONTACTED THEM VIA TELEPHONE AND WROTE THE PROB UP IN THE DEFERRAL LOGBOOK. WE ALSO KNEW THIS PROB; ACCORDING TO THE FLT STANDARDS MANUAL WAS NOT DEFERRABLE; AND THE FLT BACK TO CVG WOULD HAVE TO BE MADE WITHOUT PAX; AND JUST REQUIRED CREW. AFTER WAITING APPROX 2 HRS FOR CONTRACT MAINT TO ARRIVE AND FILL OUT LOGBOOK AND ISSUE US A FERRY PERMIT FOR THE RETURN TRIP TO CVG; WE WERE INFORMED BY GND PERSONNEL THAT WE NEEDED TO HURRY UP AND LEAVE BECAUSE OTHER FLTS WERE INBOUND AND THEY NEEDED OUR PARKING SPACE. 15 MINS LATER; CONTRACT MAINT INFORMED ME ALL THE PAPERWORK WAS COMPLETE; AND WE WERE GOOD TO GO. IN A HURRY DUE TO INBOUND FLTS; WE BOARDED THE ACFT; BRIEFED; RAN ALL CHKLISTS; AND DEPARTED. WHEN ARRIVING AT CVG; I NOTICED I HAD FORGOT TO ASK THE MAINT PERSON FOR THE MAINT CANISTER WHICH CONTAINED OUR FERRY PERMIT. THE FLT WAS MADE FAR PART 91 WITHOUT THE FERRY PERMIT IN THE ACFT.
