Synopsis

A B767 FREIGHTER WITHOUT TCASII IS GIVEN A SUDDEN TURN AND AMENDED ALT ON A DEP FROM ONT; CA. SPD DEV OCCURRED.

Narrative

WHILE EXECUTING THE PRADO 5 DEP/SID OUT OF ONT; WE TEMPORARILY LEVELED AT 4000 FT TO MEET THE RESTR TO CROSS 6 MI NW OF PDZ AT 4000 FT. AT APPROX 6 MI; I BEGAN A CLB (CLRED TO 7000 FT). AT 4500 FT WE WERE TOLD BY SOCAL DEP TO IMMEDIATELY TURN R APPROX 90 DEGS AND STOP AT 5000 FT. HIS TONE OF VOICE WAS ENOUGH AND WE IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO A 45 DEG ANGLE OF BANK TURN TO THE R. AS THE CAPT WAS LOOKING FOR THE TFC; I WAS CONCENTRATING ON THE HARD TURN. AS I LEVELED AT 5000 FT THE AUTOTHROTTLES WERE ADDING PWR TO CLB TO 7000 FT AND THE ACFT QUICKLY ACCELERATED TO 320 KTS. I IMMEDIATELY REDUCED PWR AND PUT OUT THE BRAKES; WHILE IT TOOK THE ACFT A COUPLE OF MINS TO SLOW BACK TO 250 KTS. SOCAL NEVER EXPLAINED THE CONFLICT OR QUESTIONED THE SPD AND SOON PUT US BACK ON COURSE. PDZ DME I HAVE NOTICED ON THIS DEP SOMETIMES GOES OUT NEAR THE 6 DME RESTR. IN THIS CASE AT 8 DME IT WENT OUT I USED THE MAP SCALE ON THE EFIS TO MEET MY RESTR. IT'S A CRIME THAT WE ARE ALLOWED TO FLY B757/B767 ACFT WITH NO TCASII. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A VALUABLE ASSET.
