Narrative
I FILED AN IFR FLT PLAN SPECIFICALLY SO THAT I WOULD NOT INCUR A PROB FLYING THE ADIZ. HOWEVER; APPROX 35 NM OUT; ZMA GAVE ME NEW VECTORS TO AVOID AN MOA; INCLUDING A 'GREEN 26' WITH WHICH I WAS NOT FAMILIAR. I LOOKED FOR IT ON CHARTS AND IN MY GPS DATABASE AS AN INTXN (I WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH AIRWAYS NOT CALLED 'VICTORS'). I ADVISED THAT I COULD NOT LOCATE IT; AND HE GAVE ME ROUTING VIA INTXNS; BUT THEN CAME BACK AND SAID HE COULD NOT DO THAT UNLESS I COULD LOCATE GREEN 26. BY THIS TIME RADIO RECEPTION WAS VERY POOR. SINCE I WAS IN GOOD WX; I CANCELED IFR. I THEN ASKED FOR VFR FLT FOLLOWING AND WAS TOLD HE COULD NOT PROVIDE IT. I THEN ASKED FOR ASSISTANCE IN FILING A DVFR FLT PLAN OR ADIZ NOTIFICATION. I GOT NO RESPONSE. I TRIED SEVERAL OF THE OTHER FREQS I HAD BEEN GIVEN; BUT GOT NO RESPONSE. EVENTUALLY I WAS ABLE TO RELAY THROUGH AN AIRLINER. I WAS AWARE OF THE ADIZ AND DID ALL POSSIBLE TO STAY IN COM. LATER I LOCATED 'GREEN 26' MARKED ONLY AS 'G26' ON MY CHART AND DATABASE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: PLT GENERALLY FAMILIAR WITH OVERWATER FLT IN ANOTHER AREA OF THE COUNTRY. SAYS MORE PREFLT STUDY OF LCL FLT ROUTINGS AND PROCS WOULD HAVE HELPED IN THIS CASE. RELIES HEAVILY ON GPS WITH A MOVING MAP AND DOES NOT SPEND TIME WITH THE CHARTS.
