Narrative

I (X) HAD JUST LANDED ON RWY 21L AT DTW. TAXI INSTRUCTIONS WERE TO PROCEED S ON TXWY W; W ON TXWY F SHORT OF RWY 21C. FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS FROM TWR WERE TO CROSS THE CTR RWY ON TXWY F AND CONTACT GND CTL ON 119.45. WHEN CONTACTED; GND CTL INSTRUCTED W ON TXWY F AND W ON TXWY N; HOLD SHORT OF TXWY K AND CONTACT GND ON 121.8 PRIOR TO TXWY K. ON 121.8 JUST SHORT OF TXWY K; THE GND CTLR INSTRUCTED US TO FOLLOW TXWY K TO OUR GATE. AT XA03 LCL; AS I APCHED THE TXWY K/V INTXN; I NOTICED A B727 (ACFT Y); TAXIING N ON TXWY Y; BEGIN A R TURN ON TXWY V. TO PERFORM AN EMER STOP WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY ABRUPT AND WOULD CARRY ME INTO THE INTXN AND STOPPED IN FRONT OF THE TURNING B727. I ELECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE INTXN RATHER THAN STOP. THE B727 CAPT QUESTIONED THE GND CTLR AS TO WHY A DC9 HAD FILLED HIS WINDSCREEN WHEN HE MADE THE TURN ONTO TXWY V. THE CTLR REMARKED THAT HE THOUGHT THE B727 WAS GOING TO A DIFFERENT GATE. THE CTLR'S CONFUSION COULD HAVE CAUSED A GND INCIDENT IF THE B727 CREW HAD NOT BEEN ALERT WHEN TURNING.
