BA32 FLC FLIES ASSIGNED HOLDING PATTERN AT BRV AND DISCOVERS THAT THE PUBLISHED PROC IS DIFFERENT ON SEPARATE CHARTS.

Narrative

ON AN IFR FLT PLAN FROM ORF TO IAD. FROM HPW; RICHMOND APCH CLRED US DIRECT (A SHORTCUT) TO BRV. WHEN WE WERE HANDED OFF TO DULLES APCH; WE WERE CLRED TO 'HOLD AT BRV AS PUBLISHED.' SINCE WE WERE AT OUR CRUISE ALT ON A SHORTCUT (NOT ON A PUBLISHED ANYWAY) DIRECT TO BRV; WE USED OUR COMMERCIAL LOW ALT ENRTE CHART TO LOOK UP THE PUBLISHED HOLD (REVISED JUL/XA/99. THE DEPICTED HOLD WAS A R-HAND PATTERN AT BRV ON R248. WE ENTERED THE HOLD AT BRV BY TURNING R TO THE 248 DEG OUTBOUND HDG. DULLES APCH THEN CALLED AND GAVE US VECTORS SAYING THEY EXPECTED A L-HAND PATTERN ON THE BRV R214. NOTE THAT THE COATT 3 STAR SHOWS A HOLD AT BRV; L-HAND TURNS; R214. POSTFLT TELEPHONE CALL TO TRACON SHOWED THAT DULLES APCH WAS USING GOV ENRTE CHARTS THAT DEPICTED THE L-HAND HOLD AT BRV ON THE R214 WHICH WAS NOT WHAT THE COMMERCIAL CHART SHOWED (R-HAND HOLD ON R248). TRACON ASKED US TO NOTIFY CHART COMPANY OF THE CHART ERROR. NOTE ALSO THAT WE WERE NOT GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS TO 'HOLD AT BRV AS PUBLISHED ON THE COATT 3 ARR' WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN A DIFFERENT; CLRER INSTRUCTION.
