Synopsis

TIRED PLT OF C182 LANDS WRONG RWY BTV.

Narrative

ATIS RPTED RWYS 15 AND 19 BOTH BEING USED FOR LNDGS. I WAS GIVEN VECTORS FOR A STRAIGHT-IN LNDG ON RWY 19. SOMEHOW I UNDERSTOOD THAT I WAS CLRED FOR A LNDG ON RWY 15. I BELIEVE IT WAS BECAUSE ANOTHER ACFT BEFORE ME LANDED ON RWY 15. I WAS STRESSED FROM A LONG FLT OVER DESOLATE TERRAIN IN NORTHERN ONTARIO; AND I BELIEVE IT WAS BECAUSE OF THIS THAT I MADE THIS MISTAKE. BOTH THE APCH CTLR AND THE TWR CTLR GAVE ME VECTORS; AND I COULD NOT RECONCILE WHY I WAS NOT LINING UP WITH RWY 15; WHICH I COULD SEE. I BEGAN TO BELIEVE THAT I WAS LOOKING AT THE WRONG ARPT; AND THE STRESS WORSENED. I ASKED THE TWR FOR VECTORS TO THE RWY; AND IT WAS TAKING ME FURTHER FROM WHAT I THOUGHT WAS MY ASSIGNED RWY. FINALLY; I TOLD HIM I COULD SEE THE NUMBERS. I WAS NEARLY AT TOUCHDOWN WHEN HE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE WRONG RWY. I LANDED. I AM SURE THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE OF STRESS INDUCED FATIGUE. ALSO; IT IS MY PRACTICE TO ASK FOR AN INST APCH; EVEN WHEN A VISUAL IS OFFERED; FOR PRACTICE. THE LONG RWY AT BTV IS RWY 15 AND IT HAS AN ILS. I HAD THE PLATE OUT AND HAD REVIEWED IT THOROUGHLY BEFORE ENTERING THE TERMINAL AREA. THE AREA WAS MUCH BUSIER THAN I HAD EXPECTED; AND SO I DECIDED TO NOT ASK FOR VECTORS FOR THE ILS; FIGURING IT WOULD BE MAKING EXTRA WORK FOR THE CTLR. BY THIS TIME I HAD RWY 15 VERY MUCH SET IN MY TIRED BRAIN. I THINK I MADE TOO MUCH WORK FOR MYSELF; AND I SHOULD HAVE JUST STUCK WITH THE TASKS AT HAND. I DID GET PROPER REST THE NIGHT BEFORE; BUT WORRYING ABOUT THE INITIAL LONG STRETCH OF MY FLT OVER DESOLATE TERRAIN I THINK WORE ME DOWN.
