A SAAB 340B WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE R ENG FILTER BYPASS LIGHT INTERMITTENT OP.
Narrative
AFTER STARTING THE R ENG NOTED AN OIL BYPASS ANNUNCIATION. ALTHOUGH NOT UNUSUAL FOR THE CT7 ENG I CALLED OUR LCL MAINT CTL. AFTER ADVISING THEM THAT THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED THEY INDICATED A MECH WOULD COME OUT TO THE ACFT. SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE LIGHT EXTINGUISHED. SINCE A CREW WROTE UP THE R ENG OIL BYPASS INDICATION THE PREVIOUS DAY I FELT THERE MAY HAVE BEEN SOME CORRELATION. AFTER ANOTHER 10 MINS WAITING I CONTACTED THE MAINT COORDINATOR AGAIN. THIS TIME THE COORDINATOR STATED THAT SINCE THE LIGHT EXTINGUISHED IT WAS OKAY. AGAIN THIS IS A NUANCE OF THIS ENG TYPE. NO STATEMENT HAD BEEN MADE IN THE MAINT LOG. THE CENTRAL PURPOSE WAS TO RECEIVE SOME ADVICE OR GUIDANCE ON THE PROB. ELECTED TO DEPART. HALFWAY TO OUR DEST THE R ENG OIL BYPASS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. AFTER FOLLOWING THE APPROPRIATE PROC WE CONTACTED DISPATCH AND MAINT CTL. FOLLOWING A BRIEF DISCUSSION DISPATCH INDICATED THEY WANTED US TO RETURN TO OUR STARTING POINT. UPON ARR THE TONE OF LCL MAINT CHANGED 180 DEGS. THEY SWEAR THAT THEY HAD ISSUED A RECALL OF OUR FLT AND HAD ASKED FIELD SVCS TO DEPLANE THE PAX. OUR FLT WAS ON THE GND FOR 40 MINS AND IN CONTACT WITH THE COMPANY AT ALL TIMES. NO RECALL WAS ISSUED.
