Narrative
I FILED IFR AND DEPARTED I69 FOR IKK. UPON DEP; I CALLED UP CVG APCH AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE BUSY AND WOULD GIVE ME A CLRNC IN A FEW MINS. I CONTINUED VFR; CLBING TO 4500 FT AS IT WAS THE NEAREST ALT TO MY REQUESTED ALT OF 4000 FT. MY COMMERCIAL CHART SHOWED THE CVG AIRSPACE TO BE CLASS C. SINCE I HAD ESTABLISHED CONTACT WITH CTLRS AND WAS NOT TOLD TO KEEP CLR; I CONTINUED MY FLT TOWARDS THE NW -- CERTAIN TO BE CLR OF THE CLASS C AIRSPACE. MY CLRNC WAS RECEIVED; NO COMMENTS/CONCERNS VOICED; AND I WAS VECTORED TO MY DEST. UPON DEBRIEF (SELF) THE FOLLOWING DAY; I DISCOVERED (BY INSTALLING MY UPDATES) THAT THEY HAD ISSUED A CVG CLASS B TERMINAL CHART! DURING MY FSS BRIEF; I HAD ASKED FOR NOTAMS; BUT NOTHING WAS MENTIONED. THE ENRTE CHARTS WERE NOT UPDATED -- ONLY A SINGLE LINE IN THE CHART NOTAMS IN THE UPDATES AND THE TERMINAL CHART. THIS (NEW CLASS B) IS A MAJOR CHANGE WHICH CHART PROVIDERS SHOULD INCLUDE IN UPDATES. (I PAY TO GET UPDATES EVERY 14 DAYS.) NOTAMS SHOULD INCLUDE A NOTICE. FSS COULD INCLUDE A STANDARD NOTICE FOR THE PERIOD UNTIL ALL CHARTS AND UPDATED. SINCE I DON'T FLY IN THIS AREA; I WAS TOTALLY CAUGHT UNAWARE. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO HUNT FOR THIS TYPE OF INFO.
