FLC OF AN AIRBUS A319 OVERSHOT ASSIGNED INTERMEDIATE ALT DURING DEP CLB ACCORDING TO THE DEP CTLR.

Narrative

I WAS FLYING; CAPT WAS PERFORMING PNF DUTIES. I WAS FLYING THE DEP BY HAND IN ACCORDANCE WITH FLT DIRECTOR COMMANDS ON A VECTOR TO INTERCEPT A SID. WE WERE IN INITIAL STAGE OF CLB WITH A CLRNC TO 10000 FT MSL. UPON CHKING IN WITH DTW DEP CTL; CAPT VERIFIED PASSING ALT AND NOTED CLBING TO 10000 FT. APPROX 1 MIN LATER; DEP DIRECTED A FURTHER R TURN TO APPROX 110 DEGS TO JOIN THE SID. HE ALSO CALLED OUT TFC AT 10 O'CLOCK; APPROX 8000 FT. CAPT ACKNOWLEDGED HDG; CLRNC TO SID AND LOOKING FOR THE TFC. DUE TO SCATTERED CLOUDS WE DID NOT SEE THE TFC. AS WE PASSED 8300 FT; DEP CTL CALLED AND ASKED FOR OUR ALT. CAPT REPLIED PASSING 8000 AND SOMETHING FT FOR 10000 FT. DEP SAID THAT WE WERE CLRED TO MAINTAIN ONLY 7000 FT. CAPT REPLIED; SORRY; WE HAVE TFC IN SIGHT NOW AND UNDERSTOOD STILL CLRED TO 10000 FT. HE ALSO ASKED IF DEP WANTED US TO DSND OR CONTINUE CLB. DEP REPLIED TO CONTINUE TO 10000 FT. NEITHER I NOR THE CAPT HEARD A NEW ALT CLRNC OF 7000 FT. TFC WAS A DC9 APPROX 10 O'CLOCK; 3-5 MI; APPROX 8000 FT. NO CONFLICT OR RA ENSUED. FLT WAS CONTINUED UNEVENTFULLY. IT'S A BUSY TIME OF FLT. WE WERE OPERATING IN THE 'STERILE COCKPIT' MODE; RECEIVED A CLRNC AND TFC RPT IN CLOSE SUCCESSION; COMPLIED WITH THE CLRNC. WE ACKNOWLEDGED AND LOOKED FOR TFC. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE WE COULD HAVE DONE. I HAVE NO EXPLANATION FOR AN AMENDED ALT CLRNC NOT BEING RECEIVED IF IT WERE INDEED ISSUED.
