Narrative
ON ARR IN SEA; I WAS ASSIGNED GATE XA. I TAXIED IN TO THE INNER RAMP AND PICKED UP THE LEAD-IN LINES FOR THE GATE. THE LINES ARE NEW AND REQUIRE SEVERAL TURNS TO ACQUIRE THE LEAD-IN TO THE JETWAY. AFTER THE INITIAL TURN; I PICKED UP THE MARSHALLER AND STARTED FOLLOWING HIS DIRECTIONS. (THERE WAS A GREAT DEAL OF GND SUPPORT EQUIP TO MY R; BUT IT APPEARED TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE OF THE SAFETY LINE.) JUST PRIOR TO TURNING L TO INTERCEPT THE FINAL LEAD-IN LINE; I WAS STOPPED BY THE MARSHALLER. HE MOVED SEVERAL FT TO THE R TO CHK MY WING CLRNC. HE THEN MOTIONED FOR ME TO START FORWARD; FOLLOWED SHORTLY BY A TURN TO THE L. AFTER APPROX 25-30 DEGS OF TURN; MY R WING STRUCK A DEICE TRUCK PARKED OUTSIDE THE SAFETY LINE. I STOPPED THE ACFT; GND SUPPORT MOVED THE TRUCK AND I PROCEEDED TO THE JETWAY. THE #5 SLAT HIT THE BACK OF THE DEICE TRUCK. IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THE NEW LEAD-IN LINES TO GATE NEED TO BE ADJUSTED OR MOVE THE GND SUPPORT EQUIP TO ANOTHER LOCATION. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 449896: THE NEW TAXI LINE IS NOT PARALLEL TO THE R SAFETY LINE. IF THE LINE IS FOLLOWED AS PAINTED; BODY OF ACFT IS WELL R OF INTENDED POS WHEN SITTING AT THE GATE. THE SHARP FIRST TURN CAUSES THE R WING ON MD80'S TO SWEEP WELL OUT OF THE SAFETY LINES.
