A NEAR FLC DEV WHEN A 2 ENG FERRY FLT OF AN L1011 WAS NOT GOING TO MAKE AN ALT XING RESTR ON DEP PROC OUT OF DTW; MI.

Narrative

THIS FLT WAS A 2 ENG FERRY WITH THE #2 ENG INOP DUE TO MAINT. THIS WAS MY FIRST 2 ENG FERRY IN TYPE AND WAS BUSY DURING PREFLT; ENSURING ALL PAPERWORK AND MAINT LOGS WERE COMPLETE. WE HAD MORE FUEL ON BOARD THAN THE INITIAL FLT PLAN REFLECTED; AND I WANTED AN ACCURATE FUEL BURN FOR THE FLT AS WELL AS THE EXCESS AMOUNT WAS ABOVE THE LIMIT FOR EXTRA GAS WITHOUT AN AMENDED RELEASE. I HAD INTENDED TO HAVE THE FO INFORM CLRNC DELIVERY THAT WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE THE 10 DME XING RESTR AT 5000 FT DUE TO OUR SIT. EVEN THOUGH IT WAS FILED IN REMARKS (2 ENG FERRY) ON THE FLT; I ASSUMED THAT WE WOULD STILL BE REQUIRED TO MAKE THE SID UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTIFIED. WHEN WE FINALLY RECEIVED OUR NEW FLT PLAN AND GOT OUR CLRNC; I INADVERTENTLY FAILED TO INFORM ATC THAT WE WERE UNABLE TO COMPLY WITH THE SID. WE COMPLETED OUR CHKLISTS AND DEPARTED AND ABOUT THE TIME I REALIZED MY MISTAKE; ATC ASSIGNED US 4000 FT. THESE FERRIES ARE SO RARE; I'M NOT SURE I CAN THINK OF A SOLUTION OTHER THAN ADDING AN ITEM IN THE 2 ENG CHKLIST THAT REFLECTS CONSIDERATION OF SID XING RESTRS.
