MY INSTRUCTOR AND I DEPARTED OLV FOR MKL TO DO PRACTICE APCHS UNDER THE HOOD. WE (ACFT X) AIR-FILED A FLT PLAN AND PICKED UP OUR CLRNC 20 MI SW OF MKL. WE RECEIVED VECTORS FOR SPACING AND REQUESTED MULTIPLE APCHS. WE WERE TOLD BY ZME TO EXPECT ILS RWY 2; CIRCLE-TO-LAND. WE WERE VECTORED THROUGH THE LOC. WE RECEIVED OUR CLRNC 6 MI FROM MERCY INTXN; FLY HDG 360 DEGS TO INTERCEPT; MAINTAIN 2500 FT; CLRED FOR THE ILS RWY 2. WE WERE THEN GIVEN MISSED APCH INSTRUCTIONS OF 'FLY RWY HDG MAINTAIN 2500 FT.' WE CROSSED MERCY AND PROMPTED CTR TO SEE IF HE WANTED US TO CONTACT MKL TWR OR REMAIN THIS FREQ. WE WERE ADVISED TO SWITCH TO TWR. WE CONTACTED TWR. TWR ASKED US TO RPT MERCY INBOUND. WE STATED WE WERE 'INSIDE MERCY ON ABOUT 1/2 MI FINAL WITH TFC IN SIGHT.' THE OTHER ACFT ACKNOWLEDGED HE HAD US IN SIGHT. TWR TOLD OTHER ACFT TO BREAK R. MKL TWR THEN TOLD US WE WERE CLRED FOR THE CIRCLE-TO-LAND RWY 2. WE WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED ANY FURTHER APCHS IF WE COULD NOT FLY THEM PROPERLY. WE CALLED TWR WITH OUR EXPLANATION BUT TWR TOLD US WE COULD NOT LAND AT MKL AGAIN. WE CONTACTED ZME AGAIN AND WERE TOLD WE WERE CLRED FOR THE ILS RWY 2 AND THE RWY WAS OURS. CTR CONVERSED WITH MKL TWR AND THEN WE ASKED TO PROCEED TO DYR FOR A FULL STOP LNDG.
