A FO RPT OF HAVING FLOWN A FLT FROM ANC TO NRT WITH A SO THAT WAS NOT QUALIFIED ON THAT FREIGHTER ACFT. ANC; AK.

Narrative

ON SEP/XA/99; I WAS PERFORMING MY DUTY AS FO ON A CARGO FLT DEPARTING ANC; AK; TO NRT; JAPAN. THIS WAS A REGULAR FLT FOR ME AS I HOLD A LINE FOR THE MONTH OF SEP/99. UPON ARR AT THE FLT OPS OFFICE; I NOTICED THE CAPT (WHO IS ALSO BASED IN ANCHORAGE) AS WELL AS THE SO. THE SO WAS NOT BASED OUT OF ANCHORAGE; BUT DUE TO SO COVERAGE PROBS; THE COMPANY HAD DISPATCHED HIM FROM LOS ANGELES (HIS DOMICILE) TO ANCHORAGE. I DID NOT THINK ANYTHING OF IT AS I HAD FLOWN WITH THIS PARTICULAR SO IN SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES BEFORE. WHEN THE CAPT REALIZED THAT I HAD FLOWN WITH HIM BEFORE IT SEEMED AS EVERYTHING WAS IN ORDER. WE FLEW TO TOKYO; WHICH WAS AN UNEVENTFUL FLT. THE NEXT DAY; APPROX 5 HRS BEFORE OUR RETURN FLT; THE COMPANY CREW DESK CALLED TO TELL US THAT WE HAD TO DEADHEAD BACK TO ANCHORAGE. THE REASON WAS THE FACT THAT THE COMPANY JUST REALIZED THAT THE SO WAS NOT QUALIFIED TO FLY ON THE CARGO AIRPLANE. I HAD NO KNOWLEDGE NOR COULD I HAVE HAD ANY ACCESS TO THE SO'S QUALIFICATION RECORD ON THE COMPANY COMPUTER. I DEEPLY REGRET THIS INCIDENT WHICH MADE US FLY FROM ANC TO NRT WITHOUT A PROPERLY QUALIFIED SO. TO THIS DAY I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT QUALIFICATION PROB AROSE.
