A B737-300 FLC REJECTED THE TKOF AFTER BEING ADVISED OF AN ACFT ON THE RWY AT LAS.
Narrative
FLT WAS TOLD TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD ON RWY 1L AT LAS. AFTER APPROX 1 1/2 MINS WE RECEIVED A TKOF CLRNC. PASSING THROUGH 100 KTS; TWR RPTED 'ACFT X; ACFT ON RWY.' SIMULTANEOUSLY MY FO YELLED 'THERE'S AN AIRPLANE ON THE RWY!' AS I WAS BEGINNING THE ABORT PROCS; LAS TWR STATED 'ACFT X ABOUT YOUR TKOF!' I FOLLOWED COMPANY SOP'S FOR THE ABORT SEQUENCE; AND CAME TO A STOP AFTER PASSING INTXN S ON RWY 1L. WE ESTIMATED OUR SPD AT TIME OF ABORT BTWN 100-120 KTS. THE ACFT IS EQUIPPED WITH AUTOBRAKES; AND THESE ENGAGED QUITE SUCCESSFULLY. AFTER CLRING RWY 1L; WE HAD FIRE TRUCKS FOLLOW US BACK TO THE GATE. THEY RPTED SMOKE COMING FROM BOTH TRUCKS BUT ESPECIALLY THE R SIDE. AT GATE; WE DEPLANED PAX AND 20 MINS LATER THE TIRES ON THE R SIDE BLEW OUT. TWR SUPVR SAID A SMALL CESSNA HAD EITHER NOT CLRED RWY AFTER LNDG OR BECAME LOST AND TAXIED BACK ONTO RWY 1L. TWR MGR SAID IT WAS A PIPER SENECA THAT HAD LANDED AT LEAST 3 MINS BEFORE WE ABORTED THE TKOF AND THAT HER CTLR THOUGHT HE HAD CLRED BUT HAD NOT WHEN WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. NEITHER THE FO NOR I SAW THE LIGHTS OF THIS ACFT UNTIL IT WAS CLRING RWY 1L AT TXWY N; AND IT BECAME OBVIOUS TO US WHY -- HIS STROBE LIGHTS ON WINGTIPS FLASHED JUST LIKE REIL LIGHTS AND RWY 1L IS EQUIPPED WITH SUCH LIGHTS. WE DON'T KNOW IF WE WERE LOOKING AT HIS LIGHTS OR THE REILS. ANOTHER GOTCHA. NO INJURIES TO CREW OR PAX.
