AN ACR FLC FLYING AN SF340 AT DFW RPTS CONFUSION WITH ATC INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI ACROSS AN ACTIVE RWY THAT WAS BEING USED BY ANOTHER ACFT FOR TKOF.

Narrative

MY ACFT WAS HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 35L BTWN RWYS ON TXWY Y. WE BOTH HEARD 'ACFT X CROSS RWY 35L. LNDG TFC WILL HOLD SHORT OF YOUR TXWY.' THE FO ANSWERED WITH 'ACFT X CROSS RWY 35L.' I LOOKED; FULLY EXPECTING TO SEE AN ACFT WITH ALL THE LIGHTS ON ROLLING ON THE RWY; THEN STARTED TO TAXI ACROSS. HALFWAY ACROSS I REALIZED THAT THE ACFT WAS TAKING OFF. I INCREASED PWR TO EXPEDITE XING. THE ACFT ROTATED AND WAS AIRBORNE AT ABOUT THE MIDPOINT OF THE RWY WELL SHORT OF OUR POS. I NOW BELIEVE THE CTLR MAY HAVE CONFUSED MY FLT NUMBER WITH ANOTHER; INTENDING TO CROSS SOMEONE ELSE ON RWY 35C. THERE WAS NO CONFUSION BTWN MY FO AND MYSELF ABOUT WHAT WE HEARD OR WHETHER THE CLRNC WAS INTENDED FOR US. WE HAD ALREADY STOPPED SHORT OF RWY 35L AND SEVERAL TKOFS WERE MADE WHILE WE WAITED PRIOR TO THIS EVENT TAKING PLACE. DFW IS VERY BUSY AND THIS TYPE OF PROB CAN OCCUR AT ANY TIME BECAUSE EVERY FLT MUST CROSS AT LEAST ONE ACTIVE RWY EVERY TIME YOU TAXI IN OR OUT. OUR FLTS (TURBOPROPS) ROUTINELY CROSS 2 ACTIVE RWYS ON EVERY TAXI. THE ONLY WAY TO PREVENT THIS PROB IS TO EITHER REBUILD THE ENTIRE ARPT OR EVERY PERSON INVOLVED MUST BE EXTREMELY VIGILANT SO THEY SAY IT; HEAR IT; AND DO IT RIGHT; EVERY TIME.
