MD80 CREW HAD NMAC IN SJC CLASS C WHILE ON THE LOUPE 9 SID.
Narrative
ON THE LOUPE 9 DEP FROM SJC; BEGAN TURN AT 1.8 DME. REMAINED WITHIN 4 DME AT ALL TIMES (30 DEG BANK TURN). AS WE ENTERED OUR CLBING TURN TO A 120 DEG HDG THE DEP/APCH CTLR CALLED TFC AT 9 O'CLOCK POS; WE WERE AROUND 3700 FT MSL. AS WE WERE IN OUR TURN NOW HDG ABOUT 090 DEGS; THE CTLR CALLED ANOTHER ACFT TO OUR ATTN AT AROUND 2 O'CLOCK. WE WERE LOOKING; BUT DID NOT SEE TFC. AT APPROX 4600 FT MSL; AS WE WERE ABOUT TO LEVEL OFF AT 5000 FT MSL; WE GOT A TA ON TCASII. THIS WAS JUST AS WE WERE COMPLETING OUR TURN TO 120 DEGS. AT 4800 FT MSL WE GOT AN RA TELLING US TO DSND; WE HAD NOT YET LEVELED AT 5000 FT MSL. I STOPPED THE CLB AND BEGAN A DSCNT. THE TCASII SHOWED TFC NOW AT +200 FT ABOVE AND IN FRONT OF US. AT THIS POINT THE CTLR TOLD US THIS ACFT HAD US IN VISUAL CONTACT AND TO CONTINUE OUR CLB TO 12000 FT; THEN HE CAME BACK AND SAID TO EXPEDITE OUR CLB TO 12000 FT. AT THAT MOMENT THE CAPT GRABBED THE YOKE AND BEGAN AN IMMEDIATE CLBING TURN TO THE R. IT LOOKED AS THOUGH OUR TFC; THE TWIN CESSNA; JUST SAW US ALSO. ACFT #2 QUICKLY VEERED TO THE R AND DSNDED IMMEDIATELY. WE DID NOT CONTINUE CLB BECAUSE RA WAS TELLING US TO DSND. WE BEGAN CLB AFTER TFC WAS IN SIGHT. AIRSPACE FOR DEP SHOULD BE CLASS B. DEP IS TOO BUSY TO BE LOOKING FOR VFR TFC AT OUR ALT.
