FLT ATTENDANT RPT; MD80; DFW-IAD; LNDG GEAR FAILURE; CAPT DECLARED 'PLANNED EMER LNDG.'
Narrative
ON DSCNT; THE LNDG GEAR CAME DOWN; SOUNDED UNUSUAL; AND THEN WE HEARD THE GEAR RECYCLE A COUPLE TIMES. THE GEAR CAME UP AND WE DID A GAR. AS FLT ATTENDANT #1; I WENT IN THE COCKPIT AND WAS INFORMED BY THE CAPT THAT HE WOULD GET BACK TO ME IN ABOUT 10 MINS. THE FO WENT TO THE MID CABIN AND LIFTED THE CARPET AND DID A VISUAL CHK OF THE GEAR. I WAS CALLED TO THE COCKPIT BY 4 CHIMES AND TOLD TO PREPARE THE CABIN FOR POSSIBLE EVAC. THE MINIMUM FLT ATTENDANT CREW PREPARED THE CABIN PER OUR CHKLIST -- REACHED #8 (TOTAL OF 11) IN 20 MINS. WE WERE GIVEN THE BRACE COMMAND BY THE CAPT. WE LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. CRM WAS VERY GOOD BTWN ALL CREW MEMBERS. CFR WAS AT ARPT TO MEET THE ACFT. MAINT CAME TO PUT A PIN IN THE GEAR AND WE TAXIED TO THE ARPT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THAT THEY ONLY HAD 3 FLT ATTENDANTS; INSTEAD OF THE NORMAL 4 FLT ATTENDANTS; AND THAT WAS WHY THEY COULDN'T COMPLETE THEIR 'PLANNED EMER CHKLIST' IN THE 20 MINS IT SHOULD NORMALLY TAKE TO COMPLETE. THE MECHS MET THE PLANE UPON TAXIING IN AND INSTALLED THE PIN IN THE GEAR; SO THEY COULD TAXI THE REST OF THE WAY TO THE GATE. THE PLANE WAS TAKEN OTS.
