Narrative
ON CLBOUT FROM CARACAS; VENEZUELA (CCS); REVERSE THRUST INDICATOR CAME ON (#2 ENG) YELLOW; APPARENTLY INDICATING IT WAS IN TRANSITION TO COME ON. R-HAND SIDE ENG WAS THE ONE IN DEFAULT FROM NORMAL OP. PLANE SEEMED TO BANK; TO THE L FOR ABOUT 10-20 MINS. WE RETURNED TO CCS ARPT; LNDG WITHOUT INCIDENT. MAINT CAME ON BOARD AND TOOK OVER. CAPT INFORMED ME THAT THERE WOULD NOT BE ANY NEED TO DO ANY PLANNED OR UNPLANNED EMER PROCS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THAT THEY CIRCLED CARACAS; BUT DOESN'T THINK THAT THEY DUMPED FUEL; SO THAT THEY DID LAND HVY. MAINT INSPECTED THE PLANE; AND THEN THE CAPT CALLED THEIR MAINT CTL CTR IN THE UNITED STATES. THE DECISION WAS MADE BY THE CAPT TO DISCONNECT THE REVERSE THRUSTER FROM THE R ENG; BECAUSE THE RWYS AT JFK ARE SO LONG; AND A REVERSE THRUSTER IS NOT NECESSARY. THE CAPT KEPT THE CABIN CREW AND PAX VERY WELL INFORMED OF THE PROB. THE RPTR LATER HEARD THAT THE RULE IS THAT THE COMPANY HAS 3 DAYS TO FIX THE PROB; AND THEN; AFTER THAT; IT IS FINALLY TAKEN OTS. SO; HE BELIEVES THAT THE COMPANY STILL FLEW THE PLANE FOR 3 DAYS WITH THE REVERSE THRUSTER DEFERRED.
