PVT PLT CHKING OUT IN A C140 IN A TAILWHEEL TYPE ACFT NOSED UP AFTER HVY BRAKING IN AN ATTEMPT TO TURN OFF ON A TXWY REQUESTED BY THE TWR CTLR.

Narrative

I CALLED THE FBO AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A TAILWHEEL INSTRUCTOR WITH INTENTIONS OF GETTING CHKED OUT IN THEIR CESSNA 140 ON NOV/XA/99. ON THE MORNING OF NOV/XA/99 I MET THE INSTRUCTOR AT THE FBO. WE DISCUSSED HOW MUCH EXPERIENCE I HAD AND PROCEEDED TO MOVE THE AIRPLANE OUT OF THE HANGAR. WE DISCUSSED THE OP OF THE ACFT; WHAT WE WERE GOING TO DO IN THIS FLT (FLY UP TO FRISCO AND DEMONSTRATE SOME FULL STALL LNDGS AND WHEEL LNDGS). THE ENG START; TAXI TO END OF RWY; RUNUP; AND DEP WERE UNEVENTFUL. WE PROCEEDED DIRECT TO FRISCO; ENTERED THE PATTERN AND ACCOMPLISHED 2 FULL STALL AND 2 WHEEL LNDGS. AFTER DEPARTING FRISCO TO THE S; WE PROCEEDED DIRECT TO ADDISON FOR A STRAIGHT-IN APCH TO RWY 15. A WHEEL LNDG WAS MADE; I TRANSITIONED TO A TAILWHEEL DOWN TAXI WITH FULL BACK ELEVATOR INPUTS. ADDISON TWR HAD MADE A CALL TO THE TWIN TFC BEHIND US TO MAKE AN S-TURN FOR SPACING WHILE WE WERE LNDG. AS WE WERE ON AN ESTABLISHED TAXI; TWR CALLED US AND ASKED US TO MAKE TXWY F IF POSSIBLE. AT THAT TIME I FELT WE SHOULD PROBABLY ROLL OUT TO THE NEXT TXWY; BUT I COULD FEEL BRAKE INPUTS FROM THE INSTRUCTOR. I BELIEVE WE HAD SLOWED TO APPROX 15-20 MPH AT THAT TIME. WE CONTINUED SLOWING ANOTHER 150-200 FT. I COULD FEEL THE TAILWHEEL STARTING TO MAKE SMALL BOUNCES DURING THIS DECELERATION. AT THE TIME OF THE LAST BOUNCE THE ACFT WAS MOVING FAIRLY SLOW. THE ACFT NOSED OVER WITH THE PROP STRIKING THE RWY; STOPPING THE ENG. I SHUT OFF THE MASTER PWR AND IGNITION; THEN EXITED FROM THE ACFT. I CALLED THE TWR ON MY HANDHELD; AND NOTIFIED THEM OF OUR CONDITION.
