Narrative
I SET UP THE AIRPLANE FOR SHORT-FIELD TKOF AS THE RWY IS ONLY 2540 FT. I BEGAN MY TKOF ROLL AND AS I BEGAN TO ROTATE; I SAW A BLUR PASS FROM R TO L FOLLOWED BY A COLLISION WITH (AS TOLD TO ME LATER BY MANCHESTER APCH) A DEER. THE AIRPLANE WAS JOLTED. SINCE I WAS ROTATING AT THE TIME OF IMPACT AND THE SHORT FIELD AT LAKES; I CONTINUED WITH THE TKOF. I IMMEDIATELY SCANNED ALL INSTS: ENG WAS DEVELOPING NORMAL PWR; AIRSPD NORMAL; POSITIVE RATE OF CLB AND NO ADVERSE VIBRATION FROM PROP OR ENG. I THEN RETRACTED THE GEAR. AFTER GEAR RETRACTION; GEAR IN TRANSIT (GIT) LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED; INDICATING A PROB. AFTER AIRSPD INCREASED TO 105 KIAS; I LOWERED THE GEAR AND RECEIVED NORMAL GEAR DOWN AND LOCKED INDICATIONS ON THE INST PANEL. I THEN CYCLED THE GEAR 2 MORE TIMES WHEREBY THE GIT LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED AND THE GEAR INDICATED DOWN AND LOCKED PROPERLY. I CLBED TO 3500 FT. DURING CLB I CONTACTED MANCHESTER APCH FOR RA'S. MANCHESTER ISSUED A SQUAWK AND INDICATED THAT A CALL WAS PLACED BY LAKES REGIONAL TO THE FSS (WHO IN TURN CALLED MANCHESTER APCH) THAT I HAD STRUCK A DEER DURING DEP. DEER WAS IN MULTIPLE PIECES. ABOUT 15 MINS INTO THE FLT I BEGAN TO ORBIT APPROX 30 MI NW OF BOSTON TO DETERMINE MY NEXT COURSE OF ACTION. MANCHESTER APCH INDICATED THAT THE MANCHESTER ARPT WAS NEARBY AND I COULD OBTAIN SVCS THERE. I LANDED AT MANCHESTER ARPT AND FOUND THAT I HAD NO BRAKING PWR ON THE L MAIN WHEEL -- R BRAKE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. I ROLLED TO A STOP AND TAXIED TO AN FBO AND PARKED. UPON INSPECTION OF THE SIT; THE PROP STRUCK THE DEER BUT APPEARED VISUALLY UNDAMAGED. THE L DOOR ON THE NOSE GEAR WAS TORN AFT APPROX 75% OF THE DOOR'S LENGTH. THE BEZEL SURROUNDING THE LNDG LIGHT WAS DAMAGED ON THE L SIDE. THE L MAIN GEAR WAS COVERED IN BLOOD; AS WAS THE L WING AND THE L ELEVATOR. THE L GEAR DOOR WAS TORN OFF AND BRAKE LINE SEVERED. THE AIR INTAKE (CLOSE TO THE MAIN FUSELAGE) ON THE L WING WAS DENTED VERY SLIGHTLY; COVERED IN DEER FUR. 2 RIVETS MISSING FROM JOINT TO R OF AIR INTAKE. AFT-MOST PART OF L FLAP (DIRECTLY BEHIND MAIN GEAR) CURLED UP VERY SLIGHTLY. UPON DISCUSSION WITH LAKES REGIONAL ARPT MGR THE FOLLOWING DAY; HE INDICATED THAT I STRUCK THE DEER ABOUT 700-800 FT INTO MY TKOF ROLL AND THAT THE DEER WAS STRUCK FROM ABOVE.
