ZTL CTLR CONCERNED WITH INCOMPLETE FLT PLAN ROUTING FROM ADJACENT SECTOR FOR C550 APCH TO SVH.

Narrative

I WAS AT SECTOR 44 (SHINE) FINISHING UP THE PUSH INTO CLT. TOOK HDOF ON ACFT AT FL240 NEAR SPA. RTE WAS GOING RIGHT THROUGH CLT DEPS AND ARRS. PROB #1: I DIDN'T HAVE S STRIP. RTE READ BFM.1.3044N/08744W. IT SEEMS AS IF MANY ACFT WITH LATITUDES/LONGITUDES IN THEIR FLT PLANS DON'T PROCESS PROPERLY. I TURNED ACFT AROUND CLT AND TFC AND DSNDED HIM TO 11000 FT. ACFT ASKED FOR DIRECT UVAXE FOR THE GPS RWY 24 TO SVH. I'M NOT THAT FAMILIAR WITH THE APCH (PROB #2: POSITIONING); SO I WENT TO LOOK IT UP. PROB #3: NO APCH PLATES ON THE SECTOR. WHEN I FINALLY FOUND THE APCH PLATES (AFTER VISITING 2 SECTORS); I DISCOVERED UVAXE IS 'NOT' AN IAF; ALDOH IS. I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES I'VE HAD ACFT ASK FOR DIRECT TO A FIX ON A GPS APCH THAT IS NOT AN IAF. THIS IS A REAL PROB (#4). NOW I'M READY TO CLR DIRECT ALDOH EXCEPT I DON'T KNOW WHERE IT IS IN RELATION TO CLT AIRSPACE. PROB #5: THE IAF'S FOR GPS APCHS ARE NOT DISPLAYED ON THE PVD'S AT ZTL. WE RERTE THE ACFT TO ALDOH. TURNS OUT IT IS 2 MI OUTSIDE OF CLT APCH AIRSPACE; REQUIRING A POINTOUT. WE DON'T HAVE TIME TO DO ALL THIS WHEN WE ARE BUSY. SO MOST PEOPLE DON'T. THAT'S WHY I'VE BEEN GIVEN A DOZEN AIRPLANES GOING DIRECT TO FIXES THAT AREN'T IAF'S. IT'S CALLED 'PASS THE TRASK.' LET SOMEBODY ELSE FIGURE IT OUT. IT'S NOT VERY CONDUCIVE TO A SAFE OP.
