PLT IN HOMEBUILT ACFT EXPERIENCES LESS THAN EXPECTED DECELERATION AND BRAKING UPON LNDG AT F04. A RWY EXCURSION AND COLLISION WITH A FENCE RESULTS.

Narrative

I LANDED ON MY 2600 FT RWY AT SAGINAW ARPT; TX; WITHIN 5 MPH OF MY USUAL SPD (85-90 MPH). I TOUCHED DOWN AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE APCH END AND LET THE AIRPLANE DECELERATE NORMALLY BY AERODYNAMIC BRAKING. AT APPROX 65-70 MPH; I LOWERED THE NOSE AND APPLIED BRAKES. THE ACFT CONTINUED TO SLOW THROUGH; NOT AS WELL AS USUAL. 2/3 OF THE WAY DOWN THE RWY; I ATTEMPTED TO PUMP UP THE BRAKES AND REALIZED THEY FELT NORMAL EXCEPT THAT THE L BRAKE WOULD NOT DEPRESS TO FULL TRAVEL. AS I LEFT THE RWY AT 25-30 MPH; I ATTEMPTED TO GND LOOP INTO THE FIELD TO THE R BTWN THE HANGARS AND THE END OF THE FIELD BOUNDARIES. AT THAT POINT THE R BRAKE ONLY SLID ON THE BROWN GRASS. SINCE I WAS HEADED FOR A METAL ENTRANCE GATE; I ELECTED TO TAKE THE BARRIER ARRESTMENT INTO THE WIRE FENCE NEXT TO A PAVED ROAD. ONE CAR PASSED AND I LOOKED TO SEE IF OTHERS WERE COMING. SEEING NO OTHER CARS; I STEERED THE ACFT BTWN THE 2 METAL POLES AND RAN THROUGH THE WIRE. THE WIRE FENCE BROKE LOOSE FROM THE R SIDE; WHICH MADE THE ACFT TURN 180 DEGS COUNTERCLOCKWISE AND COME TO A STOP ON THE PAVED ROAD. THE POLICE AND FIRE TRUCKS SHOWED UP; BUT THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO MYSELF OR MY PAX. DAMAGE TO THE ACFT WAS A COLLAPSED NOSE GEAR (IT RETRACTS ON A LONG EZE) AND THE MAIN GEAR COLLAPSED TO THE REAR (WHICH IS WHAT IT IS DESIGNED TO DO). THE PROP HAD NOT STOPPED SPINNING; SO IT WAS ALSO DAMAGED. I BUILT THE AIRPLANE AND HAVE LOOKED AT THE COLLATERAL DAMAGE AND HAVE DETERMINED THAT I CAN REPAIR IT WITHOUT MUCH TROUBLE.
