A C152 PVT PLT GETS LOST DURING A PROPOSED VFR XCOUNTRY FLT FROM MYF TO CXL. HE ENTERS THE CLASS B OF SAN WHILE 6 MI S OF SEE; CA.

Narrative

ON MAR/XA/00 AT ABOUT XX30; I DEPARTED MYF ON A XCOUNTRY TO CXL. I DEPARTED TO THE E AND CLBED TO MY CRUISING ALT OF 3500 FT. AFTER I DEPARTED MYF AIRSPACE; I CALLED GILLESPIE TWR TO REQUEST A TRANSITION THROUGH THEIR CLASS D AIRSPACE. AS I LEVELED OFF AT 3500 FT; I REALIZED THAT I WAS S OF GILLESPIE AND THAT I HAD POSSIBLY ENTERED THE SAN CLASS B AIRSPACE. I HAD PASSED THROUGH A LAYER OF HAZE; AND COULD NOT CLRLY SEE THE GND. I CONSULTED THE SAN VFR TERMINAL CHART AND CONFIRMED THAT I WAS S OF GILLESPIE. I CALLED THE GILLESPIE TWR AND ASKED FOR ASSISTANCE; BECAUSE I WAS NOT SURE OF MY EXACT LOCATION. THE TWR IDENTED MY ACFT ON RADAR AND VECTORED ME TO GILLESPIE. I ENTERED THE PATTERN AND MADE A FULL STOP LNDG. WHEN I REVIEWED THE VFR TERMINAL CHART I CONFIRMED THAT I INADVERTENTLY ENTERED THE SAN CLASS B AIRSPACE WITHOUT A CLRNC. THE TWR PERSONNEL TOLD ME THAT SOCAL APCH HAD PUT A RADAR TAG ON MY ACFT; BUT THEY DID NOT SAY THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A VIOLATION. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE CAREFUL IN MY PREFLT PLANNING; AND I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN WHERE I WAS AND WHERE THE CLASS B AIRSPACE WAS. I AM STUDYING INST FLYING; AND THIS WILL HELP MY PLANNING.
