CAPT OF A SUPER MD80 STOPPED QUICKLY WHEN TAXIING FROM THE GATE TO AVOID ANOTHER ACFT COMING OUT OF THE NEXT GATE AND TURNING RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. CABIN ATTENDANTS STANDING AT THE TIME RECEIVED MINOR INJURY.

Narrative

DURING TAXI OUT; WE WERE TOLD BY RAMP TO EXPECT TO FOLLOW COMPANY OUT EXIT AND TO SWITCH TO GND CTL. ON SWITCHING; WE BOTH HEARD A CALL TELLING TO TAXI AND TELLING US TO GIVE WAY. WE WERE ABOUT 3-5 KTS LOOKING FOR AN ACFT. THE ONLY ONE WE SAW WAS IN THE PARKING AREA 2 SPOTS E. THEN WE SAW THE ACFT IN THE SPOT NEXT TO IT LURCH OUT OF PARKING AND START A L TURN IN FRONT OF US. I IMMEDIATELY HIT THE BRAKES AND THE R BRAKE GRABBED MAKING A MORE SUDDEN STOP THAN PLANNED. (THE BRAKES WERE A LITTLE WARM; 150 DEGS.) WE NOTICED THAT THE ACFT PULLING OUT DID NOT HAVE HIS BEACONS ON OR ANY OTHER LIGHTS. HE WAS A MAINT TAXI AND THERE WERE NO GND PERSONNEL EITHER. MY FLT ATTENDANTS WERE UP GIVING THE PREDEP BRIEF AND WERE JOSTLED A BIT. THE #2 FLT ATTENDANT HITHER BACK AGAINST A SEAT AND HAD A VERY SORE BACK. THE #1 AND #4 FLT ATTENDANTS HIT UP AGAINST THE BULKHEAD AND WERE SHAKEN AND NOT INJURED. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE IF IT WERE DARK. I DON'T KNOW THE REMEDY TO MAKE SURE THAT MOVING ACFT HAVE THEIR BEACONS ON OTHER THAN A CHKLIST. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED WITH SIMPLE FOLLOWING OF PROC.
