2 ACFT OCCUPY THE SAME RWY AT MSP; MN.
Narrative
CLRED FOR VISUAL APCH TO RWY 12R AT MSP. RESTR TO 170 KIAS UNTIL 5 MI FINAL. ACFT IN FRONT OF US WAS AN A320 ALSO RESTR TO 170 KIAS UNTIL 5 MI FINAL. ATC (MSP APCH) ADVISED WE HAD 4 MI SPACING. WHILE ON APCH; WE CLOSED TO ABOUT 3 MI ON THE A320 (CONFIRMED VISUALLY AND ON TCASII). AT 5 MI FINAL; WE SLOWED TO OUR FINAL APCH SPD (155 KIAS) AND CONTACTED MSP TWR. TWR CLRED US TO LAND AND ADVISED WE HAD 40 KIAS OVERTAKE ON THE A320. THE CAPT ELECTED TO CONTINUE THE APCH BUT REBRIEFED THE GAR PROCS. THE A320 TOUCHED DOWN AND IT APPEARED THAT THE A320 WOULD CLR BY THE TIME WE TOUCHED DOWN. THE A320 THEN ROLLED OUT ALMOST TO THE END OF RWY 12R AND TURNED OFF ON TXWY A12 (9500 FT DOWN RWY 12R). IT APPEARED THAT WE WOULD TOUCH DOWN AFTER THEY CLRED AND THE CAPT CONTINUED THE APCH AND BEGAN THE FLARE. THE A320 STOPPED ON TXWY A12 AND WE TOUCHED DOWN WITH THEIR TAIL STILL OBSTRUCTING RWY 12R. IN RETROSPECT; WE SHOULD HAVE GONE AROUND PRIOR TO 100 FT AGL WHEN THE A320 STILL WAS ON THE RWY. HOWEVER; WITH 9500 FT OF AVAILABLE RWY; I DO NOT BELIEVE SAFETY WAS COMPROMISED.
