B767 CAPT LNDG AT SFO ON RWY 28L AT SFO IS CONCERNED ABOUT JET BLAST FROM B747 ACFT HOLDING BETWEEN RWYS 28 ON THE APCH END.

Narrative

THE ATC TWR AT SFO HOLDS B747 ACFT BETWEEN RWYS 28L AND 28R ON TXWY C THAT ARE WAITING FOR TKOF ON RWY 28R. WHEN LNDG ON RWY 28L YOU ENCOUNTER THE WAKE TURB FROM THE FOUR ENGINES OF THE B747. THIS IS VERY STRONG; EVEN WHEN AT IDLE PWR. THIS WAKE TURB IS STRONG ENOUGH TO PUT A B767 INTO A 25 DEG BANK IN THE FLARE. ADDITIONALLY; THE DISTANCE FROM THE WINGTIP OF THE B767 TO THE (60 FT) TAIL OF THE B747 IS APPROX 150 FT AND IS LESS FOR A B777 OR B747. I DO NOT BELIEVE THE FAA WOULD ALLOW A 60 FT OBSTACLE WITHIN THE THRESHOLD AREA LESS THAN 150 FT FROM OUR WINGTIP. THIS COMBINATION OF FACTORS IS EXACERBATED AT NIGHT AND WITH A SW XWIND. BOTH THE SFO TWR AND OUR COMPANY ATC PEOPLE AND THEY ARE (BOTH) AWARE AND ADMIT TO HAVING KNOWLEDGE OF THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE PROBS. AS OF 2 DAYS AGO NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE AND THIS IS AN INCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. THE SOLUTION TO ALL THE PROBS IS TO HAVE ALL THE B747'S CROSS BOTH RWYS 28L AND 28R AT MIDFIELD AND USE THE PARALLEL TAXIWAY C ON THE N SIDE OF RWY 28R AND HAVE THEM HOLD SHORT OF RWY 28R ON THE N SIDE; THUS FACING S RATHER THAN N.
