A LEAR 35 PIC TURNS OFF RWY 36 ONTO THE OVERRUN AREA OF RWY 14L INSTEAD OF TXWY B AS CLRED AT OMA; NE.

Narrative

LANDED ON RWY 36 AND TOLD TO 'TURN R AT TXWY B.' THE TXWY B TO THE R IS CONFUSING BECAUSE OF CLOSE PROX TO RWY 14L OVERRUN AREA. I TURNED TOO SOON ONTO THAT OVERRUN AREA. I REALIZED MY MISTAKE AND HURRIEDLY TURNED ONTO A TXWY AT THE APCH END OF RWY 14L; THUS CLRING ALTHOUGH TECHNICALLY CUTTING THE CORNER OF THE ACTUAL RWY END. SEE DIAGRAM. WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE PROMINENT MARKINGS OR LEAD-IN LINES TO TXWY B. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE CAPT STATED THAT HIS CORPORATION HAS ACFT BASED AT OMA AS WELL AS IN CHICAGO. THE CREW WAS FROM CHICAGO; IN A LEAR 35; SO WAS NOT REALLY FAMILIAR WITH THE LAYOUT OF THE TXWY VERSUS THE RWY 32R/14L RWY OVERRUN. THE CTLR HAD ASSUMED THAT THE CREW WAS FROM OMA SO DID NOT GIVE ANY EXTRA INSTRUCTIONS RELATED TO THE 'TRICKY' TURN AREA. AFTER THIS OCCURRED THE TWR CTLR ISSUED MORE EXPLICIT INSTRUCTIONS TO THE NEXT LNDG ACFT. RPTR SAID THAT THIS HAS OCCURRED BEFORE AND THE ARPT HAD JUST HELD A MEETING REGARDING THIS SUBJECT. THEY ARE GOING TO PLACE A DOUBLE LINED LEAD-IN LINE FROM RWY 36 TO TXWY B TO KEEP ACFT FROM TURNING FURTHER R AND TRANSGRESSING ONTO THE RWY 14L/32R OVERRUN AREA. THE CAPT CALLED THE FACILITY CHIEF AND NO ACTION WAS CONSIDERED AS NO TFC CONFLICT OCCURRED.
