Narrative

I AM A CFI AND DURING A RECENT TRAINING XCOUNTRY FLT FROM OAKLAND TO ANGWIN AND BACK TO OAKLAND; I DIVERTED MY STUDENT TO SONOMA VALLEY ARPT. AS PART OF THE TRAINING I WANTED HIM TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO ENTER A PATTERN AT A STRANGE UNCTLED ARPT AND LAND THERE SAFELY. AS PART OF THE TRAINING I HAD HIM LOOK ON THE CHART IN THE ARPT FACILITY DIRECTORY FOR PATTERN DIRECTION TPA'S AND NOTES ON THE ARPT. HE DID AND WE DID A TOUCH AND GO ON RWY 25 AND DEPARTED TO THE S. IT WASN'T UNTIL A FEW DAYS LATER (WHILE ON A DIFFERENT TRAINING FLT TO SONOMA) THAT I READ THE NOTES TO DISCOVER THAT THE TOUCH AND GOES ARE PROHIBITED AT SONOMA VALLEY ARPT. IN MY EXCITEMENT TO TEACH THIS STUDENT ALL I COULD ABOUT DIVERTING; I FORGOT TO DOUBLE-CHK HIM FOR ACCURACY. AS THE CFI; I SHOULD HAVE RESEARCHED THE ARPT BEFORE DIVERTING THERE; INSTEAD OF DIVERTING TO THE MOST CONVENIENT ARPT. THIS WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN; AND I APOLOGIZE TO ANYONE AT THE ARPT THAT WE MIGHT HAVE UPSET. (NOBODY ELSE WAS IN THE PATTERN; AND NO OTHER PEOPLE WERE ON THE GND AS FAR AS WE COULD TELL.)
