A B767-300 DURING A MAINT TAXI ENCOUNTERED A CONSTRUCTION BARRIER ON A TXWY. WHEN THE TWR WAS ADVISED OF THE BLOCKAGE ITS CORRECTIVE INSTRUCTIONS RESULTED IN A TXWY INCURSION.
Narrative
WE LEFT THE ZZZ W GATE WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI TXWYS Z; S; B TO GATE XX. WHEN APCHING THE INTXN OF TXWYS S; B THE RADIO OPERATING NOTICED THAT TXWY S HAD A BLOCKADE ON IT JUST SHORT OF TXWY B. A CALL WAS PLACED TO GND CTL STATING THE SIT. TAXI MOVEMENT WAS STOPPED ADJACENT TO TXWY S1 AND WE WERE WAITING FOR NEW INSTRUCTIONS. GND CALLED US AND ASKED IF WE COULD MAKE A L TURN ONTO TXWY R. I CONFIRMED THAT WE COULD AND TURN WAS MADE; BUT WE WERE ACTUALLY ON TXWY S1. AT THAT TIME WE HAD CROSSED THE RWY HOLD SHORT LINES. WE STOPPED THE TAXI REALIZING THAT A MISTAKE WAS MADE. HAD GND TOLD US THAT WE HAD ACTUALLY PASSED TXWY R AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO MAKE A 180 DEG TURN TO CONTINUE OUR DELIVERY WE BOTH AGREED THAT WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE THAT. WE WOULD HAVE WAITED FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS TO GUIDE US OUT OF OUR LOCATION. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE GND CTLR DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THE CONSTRUCTION BECAUSE THE ACFT TAXIING BEHIND US WAS ABRUPTLY MOVED OVER TO TXWY R WHEN THE CTLR REALIZED THAT TXWY S WAS CLOSED. THE NEXT INSTRUCTIONS WERE TO USE RWY 10R TO TXWYS U; A TO GATE XX. GND TOLD US TO CALL THE TWR SO THE INCIDENT COULD BE DISCUSSED. WE SPOKE TO THE TWR SUPVR AND WAS ADMONISHED FOR OUR ERROR; HIS WORDS AT THAT TIME WAS THIS WAS IN FACT NOT AN INCURSION; BUT AN INCIDENT.
