A VERY LOW TIME PLT; FLYING A C310; WAS TAXIING AT RHV AND ATTEMPTED TO TAXI AROUND AN ACFT; CAUSING HIM TO STRIKE A HANGAR DOOR WITH HIS WINGTIP.

Narrative

TAXIING OUT OF MY TIE-DOWN AT ROW K FOR A VFR FLT; I NOTICED THAT I HAD...STOPPED SHORT OF TXWY 1 AND NOTIFIED GND THAT I HAD TO SHUT DOWN TEMPORARILY AND WOULD CALL WHEN I WAS READY TO RESUME TAXIING. I SHUT THE PLANE DOWN AND REMOVED THE PITOT COVER AND DID A BRIEF WALKAROUND TO MAKE SURE I DID NOT OVERLOOK ANYTHING ELSE. FINDING NO OTHER PROBS; I RETURNED TO THE COCKPIT AND STARTED THE PLANE (DOUBLECHKING MY PRESTART CHKLIST). AS I CALLED GND TO GET A TAXI CLRNC I NOTICED A PLANE BLOCKING THE TXWY TO THE ACTIVE RWY (TXWY 1 S OF MY POS). GND TOLD ME TO STAND BY WHILE THEY FIGURED OUT WHAT TO DO. I OFFERED TO TAXI OUT BRIEFLY TO THE N ON TXWY 1; GIVING WAY TO THE OTHER PLANE AND THEN TURNING TO THE S. GND APPROVED (IF I WAS ABLE). ON TAXIING OUT I WAS PRIMARILY WATCHING THE OTHER PLANE AND WHEN I TURNED R; MY WINGTIP CONTACTED A HANGAR DOOR. I WAS ABLE TO SHUT DOWN AND PUSH THE PLANE BACK AND THEN TAXI BACK TO MY TIE DOWN. THERE WAS MINOR DAMAGE TO THE DOOR AND A BROKEN FAIRING ON MY R TIP TANK. I KNEW I WAS TIRED AND HUNGRY AND WAS TRYING TO HURRY TO VISIT MY CHILDREN. I MISSED THE PITOT COVER ON INITIAL PREFLT BECAUSE I WAS PREOCCUPIED WITH THE CONDITION OF THE NOSEWHEEL; WHICH LOOKED LOW. ATTEMPTING TO BE EXTRA CAREFUL AT STUDYING THE WHEEL AND NOSE GEAR; I FAILED TO LOOK UP AT THE NOSE OF THE PLANE AND REMOVE THE PITOT COVER. THE MISSED PREFLT ITEM RAISED MY AWARENESS OF MY FATIGUE; BUT APPARENTLY NOT ENOUGH. IN HINDSIGHT; I SHOULD HAVE 1) REVIEWED THE PREFLT CHKLIST UPON COMPLETION OF THE WALKAROUND -- THAT WOULD HAVE CAUGHT THE MISSED COVER; 2) WAITED FOR GND'S INSTRUCTIONS AND KEPT THE PLANE ON THE TXWY CTRLINE INSTEAD OF VOLUNTEERING A SOLUTION THAT WAS OBVIOUSLY A RISK; OR BETTER YET 3) WHEN I NOTICED HOW TIRED I REALLY WAS I SHOULD HAVE CANCELED THE FLT.
